Re: Improvements to Tool Handling (and other fixes) #628

This is an extensive list, and it looks good (without actually trying anything.) The only comment I have is that "Drilling now automatically detects all drillable locations in the base object and adds them " may be a bit of overkill. I often have multiple sizes of holes, and I do not want ...

Re: Trying to pad a sketch drawn in a hole

Jim,

Adding to what chrisb said, the construction state is indicated by all of the drawing icons in the toolbar turning blue. Once you understand that behavior, it becomes obvious when you are in full-time construction mode.

Re: Trying to pad a sketch drawn in a hole

Jim, The problem in the latest file you posted is very simple. You left the circle in Sketch004 as construction geometry (blue) instead of ordinary geometry. Select the circle in the sketch, toggle the construction geometry icon, the circle turns green, and you can now pad the sketch without difficu...

Re: Trying to pad a sketch drawn in a hole

As you can see, Willem's suggestion of going through the motions of detaching the sketch also worked. Yes, I tried his suggestion, and it does indeed work. However, it does so by creating an independent solid, which is a concept not supported by PartDesign. The end result looks OK at this stage, bu...

Re: Limiting depth of cut for a surface

I don't have an answer for FreeCAD, but a trick I use frequently in this type of situation is to fake the z-setting in the CNC program. (I use linuxcnc.)

It is certainly not the most elegant solution, and it is not production-worthy, but it works just fine for one-off parts.

Re: Sketcher, constraint silence #89

Could you please "report this up the chain" I think chrisb is correct, this is not a bug. The solver will identify the conflict when it is clear. For example, trying to place a single point (line end, circle origin, etc.) at two different locations will be readily identified. However, in ...

Re: Trying to pad a sketch drawn in a hole

Jim, I did not keep the original file you posted, but it worked exactly like I said above. When I tried the new files everything failed miserably. After digging in a bit more I discovered that several of your sketches were not fully constrained. I went ahead and added the missing constraints, withou...

Re: Trying to pad a sketch drawn in a hole

The problem is that your sketch for the rod is slightly smaller than the slot width in the upright parts. That may make sense from a construction view, but it means that you are trying to create a second completely separate solid inside of the PartDesign workbench. That is not allowed, since the Par...

Re: Sketcher, constraint silence #89

The only way the sketcher can determine conflicts is by trying solve the sketch subject to all the constraints. In this case the problem shows up in the "report view" as follows: Sel : Clear selection Sel : Add Selection "Tutorial_snapshot_121818_Mar.Sketch.Edge3(0.000000,0.000000,0.0...
