Re: Path.Area: Welcome, to the new era!

I am not sure if this is standard behaviour, so please let me know if your machines behave the same: Doing a rapid move G0 in a horizontal+vertical direction on the machines I know moves alway vertical first, if it goes up and moves it last, when it goes down. The machines I know are completely stu...

Re: Path.Area: Welcome, to the new era!

Machine controllers like linuxcnc will cache the feed rate associated with vertical motion separately from horizontal motion. So in a gcode block like G1 X20 F100 G1 Z10 F80 G1 Y10 (this move will be performed at F100) G1 Z5 (this move will be performed at F80) G1 X25 (this move will be performed a...

Re: Why G01 instead of G1?

Hmmm, I have never seen anything other than two-digit G-codes from the Path workbench, with the occasional exception of a G0 as the first code in some procedures.

The typical G-code definitions allow for either. Does your machine controller object?

Re: Geometric accuracy parameter

I agree with herbk that the proposed default tolerance is probably a bit too coarse for many applications. Does this change really improve anything other than meshes and surfaces? Should the new tolerance be applied only to those cases? For me, other Path operations such as profiling, pocketing, dri...

Re: Problems with Self Intersecting Faces in a model

It may be best to follow the orthodoxy I resent the use of this term. It is not orthodoxy, it is based on experience : hand down, the polyline tool is much faster than working with disconnected elements. I am not a competitive person, but I am willing to put it to the test in a contest. Are you? Th...

Re: Problems with Self Intersecting Faces in a model

Bill, What follows is utter heresy around here, but I do not like (and rarely use) the polyline tool. It is efficient for drawing lots of lines and arcs in a hurry, but for me it always adds the wrong constraints. I typically find my sketch all locked up until I go back are delete a bunch of polylin...

Re: Drilling Bug

Looks like a good fix to me. Do you want to do a PR or would you like me to implement it? I would prefer that you either do the PR or simply include the fix as part of the ongoing improvements you are making. I suspect it is quite a rare problem, since nobody else seems to have reported it. I would...

Re: Using Path workbench to pocket slots

Eric, I took a quick look at your file. I do not see anything wrong. The pocket operation at this time requires a flat face at the the bottom of the pocket. A circular face or a ring of faces along the sidewall of the hole does not work at this time. Improvements in the pocket operation have been di...

Re: How do I get rid of this bounding box

I am puzzled about what issues the new bounding box was supposed to solve. I have never had any problem seeing the rapid paths. They have always shown up very plainly even with the underlying object selected. That is because previously a Path object cannot be selected in the 3D view, at least not i...

Re: How do I get rid of this bounding box

As stated by mlampert, the new bounding box is a bit annoying. For me it provides no value. There is also a small box that shows up when any tool is selected. Again, I have no idea why that might be useful. I am puzzled about what issues the new bounding box was supposed to solve. I have never had a...
