how does one copy the source for the page Category Tutorials

Post by piffpoof »

I was going to copy the source for the page Category:Tutorials to my SandBox to try and clean it up a bit. But there is no source.

Is there anyway to find the source or is it completely machine generated?

It is machine-generated, of course. But not completely ;) :

Code: Select all

FreeCAD tutorials. Please help us adding more!

Special pages are [[Offsite tutorials]] and [[Video tutorials]] that hierarchically contain links to tutorials hosted on external sites. A useful source of video tutorials is of course also a ''FreeCAD'' keyword search on [http://YouTube.com YouTube].

Thanks, that's what I got when I opened the page for edit, but I'm trying to find if there is a list for the tutorials located on the Wiki itself.

Hello Dean.

Within the wiki, scroll down.
On the left side (panel) there should be an entry (near the end) reading "special pages".
Click on that and then choose "categories".

Scrolling further you will see an entry "Tutorials (42 Entries)" click on this to see this page.

This way you can verify that there are 42 (english) tutorials listed in the wiki.

Thanks Roland. It's all a bit like Alice in Wonderland....

I've been using the page today and thought I'd try to improve its accessibility, but if it's purely machine generated then there's not much use.

I was thinking it would be better for the users if it had 2 listings for each tutorial
  • what tool is covered (e.g. Draft workbench)
  • what is being done (e.g. building a birdhouse)
I had this idea that sometimes a user might be trying to model a doghouse, they don't know which workbench they should use, but they see "model birdhouse" and think, "well, just scale it up a bit and it's a doghouse"

Where another user is there to find out how to use the Draft workbench

Right now there's a lot support for the second usage type but not much for the first usage type
