No info on Groups in wiki?

Post by poserge »

Hi,

I could not find any information on creating Groups in wiki. Turned out that I should have right click on the document node in treeview! I think this should be described somewhere in wiki for the new users like me.

Thanks.
P.S. Sending PM with wiki edition request...

Hello poserge.

Basically you are right.

The main thing with FreeCAD is the workbench concept.
So, it is easy to put up workbench or command-related info to the wiki.

Since your observation is not workbench-specific, the only place to put it on the wiki would be the Document_structure-page.

I have begun putting up small tutorials like
Export_to_STL_or_OBJ
Import_from_STL_or_OBJ
Draft_ShapeString_tutorial - WIP, not finished yet ...

This may lead to an extra category of "HowTo's" or "Best Practice" or something.
In your case a tutorial dealing with "Organizing the document by grouping solids",
comparing compund, fusion and group (and maybe body) would be perfect.

Since i would like to have more tutorials like:
  • *importing text from inkscape
*importing an image for tracing by using the image workbench
i think we sooner or later should discuss these points ...

Done with Group page and will add organizing tutorial later.

Thanks for the idea and for the link!

P.S. I feel like I don't know whole lot of things in FreeCAD. Is it possible to change other properties of the group so that they get reflected on objects inside the group? Like some line styles or something like that? I was just reading VisGroup page and it seems like there are more properties than just a name and visibility.

I think it would be better to add Group to the existing page Std CreateGroup (Std standard command)

Good idea renato, +1.

One more Thing.

Since NO PAGE links at the moment to Std_CreateGroup I think we should add a link on the document structure page ...
