Help regarding IFC

Post by cnirbhay »

In IFC, things are linked to each other through grouping via IfcRelAggregates or IfcRelContainedInSpatialStructure. Kindly view these links as references: (http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/ifc/I ... egates.htm), (http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/ifc/I ... ucture.htm).

Does IFC link the rebars to its parent structural element (slab, beam or column)? As far now, I'm unable to find any direct link. Linking of coordinates seems to be the only solution to this, but so complex.

Can someone suggest a way to which I can find some relation between them? Or can FreeCAD implement the link between them? I feel IfcRelDecomposes could be the right term for that. (http://www.buildingsmart-tech.org/ifc/I ... mposes.htm)

Regards.

Indeed I also had a look at that already, it seems it is not available in IFC. There are possible workarounds, of course, for example giving the rebar a custom property, that would hold a reference to the hosting structural object. But that is not a very standard thing to do, and no other app would see it, so it is basically useless.

It might be interesting to open an issue/proposal on the IFC issues tracker: http://jira.buildingsmart.org/browse/IF ... mary-panel
