Stirling 60 Engine
Here are screen grabs of another Stirling engine model I finally finished. This one is a "Stirling 60" modeled from plans drawn by Jeroen Jonkman (available on several on-line sites). This was very easy to model because the plans were completely dimensioned and accurate, but there are still a few things I need to clean up in my model...
After modeling the parts in FreeCAD, I exported each piece to .stp. These screen grabs are of all the .stp files Imported into one document. Most of the pieces were modeled in the 3D space at the correct coordinates so that the .stp files didn't need to be repositioned after they were Imported into the document.

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
Yet another excellent model bejant. Way to go! (and very well presented)
Are you machining any of these out, or are you just enjoying the modeling?

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
Thanks Mark for the compliments; I haven't machined any yet but would like to do so some day; right now I don't have the equipment to do it myself.
I started this model some time ago as a way to learn FreeCAD, but a week or so ago in the Help forum another user asked for help modeling a flywheel and I noticed the plans he was using. Normally I don't like to do today those things I can put off until tomorrow, but I changed my mind and forced myself to finish this model; maybe it will inspire someone.

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
Is there any chance you can or will share the files? I would be interested to see how you modelled it all, that is not just the step imports. The result looks great.

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
I know what you mean about wanting to machine it someday. For the last few years now I'v been wanting to build a Gingery Lathe. I have done a few models of the patterns to be CNC cut and the smaler pieces to be 3D printed in PLA for investment casting, but that's as far as I'v gotten. No foundry, no green sand...bejant wrote:Thanks Mark for the compliments; I haven't machined any yet but would like to do so some day; right now I don't have the equipment to do it myself.

Oh, and I browse over to Grizzly once a week or so and drool over the G0704. Sad, I know....

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
I read the Gingery series of about 7 paperback books about how to build your own shop equipment, starting with (I think) a charcoal foundry. I've been wanting to do some of that stuff ever since then too. Especially the charcoal foundry ... I'd get a certain amount of enjoyment seeing the look on the face of that pesky old neighbor lady from down the street as she drives by real slow and sees my charcoal foundry in the driveway ablaze and spewing up huge smoke and flames. Either that or lighting up a Tesla coil in the front yard and hearing her dog start barking.quick61 wrote:I know what you mean about wanting to machine it someday. A company named Lindsay Publications used to sell those and other books I found interesting but I think they've gone out of business.
================================
I couldn't get the chamfers at the bottom of the upper platform support holes right: So I changed the model so that the holes have flat bottoms even though that's not how they'd be if they were drilled...

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
The bearing that fits in the bearing housing is an NSK #647ZZ (684A-A-1ZZ1MC3E) deep groove bearing, shielded both sides.

Re: Stirling 60 Engine
If anybody wants to "assemble" the 3D models into one FreeCAD model (using the FreeCAD .fcstd files instead of the .stp files included in "00_Complete_Assembly.fcstd"), the Tumbler Plate will need to be rotated about the center pin 1.07556 degrees. This raises up all the things at the piston end Z = .60057mm, and of course the other end of the Tumbler Plate (the side tied to the Crankshaft) drops by the same amount (Z = .60057mm). I posted this in case somebody doesn't want to do the math.

"19_Main_Cylinder.FCStd" file size is too big to upload to the forum, it can be downloaded here.
