Yes, that would at least be useful for fixing, if the model brakes because of topological naming issue. . Do you have any other use-case for it?NormandC wrote:I think it would be useful to be able to change the base face once the feature has been created.

Not at the moment. I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I would like on testing 0.17.
I've been otherwise occupied...

Padding and pocketing curved surfaces.
During today's playtime I discovered that FreeCAD's awsom Part Design Next Pad and Pocket feature is much less racist than before, they no longer cares if the face they operate on are curved or not
The ellipse have not yet ben tested, who knows what other geometry they will act upon?

Hi,cox wrote:Pad and Pocket directly from a face.
This can be a huge time-saver, and the workflow is intuitive. It will probably take me some time to relearn this, as the sketch first approach has been etched in my brain.
Simply select a face and choose Pad or Pocket tool.
about working with faces... Here:

I would guess that this feature is not yet implemented for revolve, or there could be a bug hiding somewhere. But that it is supposed to work the same way as pad and pocket.
Wold be nice if this could be looked at by a developer, and I could make a bug report if necessary.

Re: FC v0.17dev: Part Design Next Usecases and Best practices
Thanks cox for the fast confirmation. I have tried with edges, line datums as revolve axis...but nothing...Probably is not yet implemented.cox wrote: Wold be nice if this could be looked at by a developer, and I could make a bug report if necessary.
If necessary you could make a bug report. Thanks in advance!
(sorry for little OT)

yes there is some bug in revolve and groove, this is already part of issue #0002504. I had not much time lately for coding, but a 4-day weekend is coming in south germany, so hopefully I will get some bugfixing done
Actually it should work on every face, ellipse, spline etc. It is undependend of type. The ellipse have not yet ben tested, who knows what other geometry they will act upon?

Nice Idea, thankssliptonic wrote:Here's an idea for a use case I'd be very interested to see:
I want to make some molds for a plastic injection molder
I'd like to model the part, establish a parting plane, and then make two solids that mate on that plane.
I'm not so concerned with draft angles at this point as the parts will be very simple but establishing holes for alignment pins in the two parts would be nice.
I'm right on it
