STL files appear to be missing some of an object's attributes

Post by fhew »

I'm brand new to FreeCAD and 3D printing and I am trying to learn by creating a test object .

When I export the object, I've selected all, and exported it as an STL file type.
Then when I import it to either admeshgui, slic3r or repetier, some aspects of the object are missing.

It seems as though anything that takes material out of an object are not shown.
All of my pockets are missing and an outside fillet
But, my pads are shown and an inside fillet is there too.

What am I doing wrong?

OS: Linux
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.16.Unknown
Build type: Unknown
Python version: 2.7.11
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 3.1.3
OCC version: 6.8.0.oce-0.17

I'm running this on Fedora 25.

Thanks
Fulko

This has been posted about here many times, just select the item you want to export, usually just the last stage in your history then export that to STL....... You have selected everything hence you get an STL that's something like all your model's history fused together. For example if you had a cube then cut a hole in it, then exported everything, then you get a cube plus a cube with the hole fused together, hence you get a cube with the hole filled back in.

This is the logical and intended behaviour, because generally you would be interested in exporting items from within your project file, not the complete file.

Thank you for your answer.
I had tried searching for my issue in the forum, but I couldn't find a match.

It also (sort of) explains the 'Combo View - Model' and the behaviour I was noticing
It's more of a history, than a hierarchy.
