Draft WB: Taking measurements (centered & perpendicular)

Post by hedgehog »

Hi,
I'd appreciate any insight into what I'm doing wrong....
I'm trying to follow along this FreeCAD excellent tutorial on making the arduino case:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nu8y0C0nvg

At 10:50 our guide (who is very good) takes a measurement using the Draft WB.

If I follow his instructions exactly, selecting the perpendicular and centre lock buttons then clicking the edge and arc lines when they highlight, I just get a line drawn to where I clicked.
That is, the line is not perpendicular to the edge, not is it at the centre of the arc.

Is anybody able to obtain the demonstrated result, or does someone observe what I do?

The file used in the video is 20MB so I won't attach it.
Its URL is here:
https://grabcad.com/library/arduino-uno ... nce-design

Best wishes
Hedgehog

Hi, it is only a wild guess, but in the video you see that in the snap menu which has 15 icons ONLY the lock, center and perpendicular options are selected. When more options are selected the program can snap to the wrong points

The next guess would be if if you set up the workplane correctly ?

One more tip: when using FreeCAD in Ubuntu it is difficult to tell the difference between which Draft WB > Snap buttons are selected and which buttons are not selected. We can change that by clicking to Edit (pull-down menu) > Preferences > General (icon in left pane) > General (tab at top of right pane) and changing the Style Sheet preference from "no style sheet" to one of your liking (I like Light-blue).

Thanks I'll try that before I attempt the other suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for the tip. I believe I have, but I'll try again just in case.
