When I use Part->Join->Connect Objects I cannot Join more than two items at a time.

Do I have to go through all 350 objects joining them two at a time?
that's weird... I see that sometime doing a 'connect' on multipart the operation will create a strange result with missing faces...
probably a macro to recurse objects and make a 'connect' progressively would solve this...
I'll have a look...

Beware of FreeCAD version used !
Between 0.16 and 0.17, the following features behave differently:
- Part Join Connect,
- Export to IGES, STEP, ...

@easyw-fc, I think you use 0.17 ?
@daveconventry, I think you use 0.16 ?

yes thx @jidoeuf, I forgot to tell Dave I'm using FC0.17... in FC0.17 you can connect multiple objects...
... stil some weird things may happen when using connect feature... for example with this part everything is fine:
as1-oc-214.stp
the 'connect' operation is fine and the STEP exported has only external geometries in FC017
as1-oc-214-connected.FCStd

fc017-connected.PNG
fc017-connected.PNG (286.37 KiB) Viewed 1225 times
but with this one:
test-to-connect.FCStd
(7.05 KiB) Downloaded 27 times
something wrong happens:
test-connect-wrong.FCStd
(39.84 KiB) Downloaded 28 times
fc017-connected-weird.PNG
fc017-connected-weird.PNG (252.83 KiB) Viewed 1225 times
Probably a bug in FC017 I think or something related to OCC weirdness ...
Maurice

PS to Dave:
NB if you are going to use FC0.17 for testing these features, DO NOT save your original work (probably made in FC0.16) but work only on a copy :D

Thanks.

Yes, I do have the latest GIT version 0.17.10949 installed, but I tend to use the 0.16 stable version for most work.

Completely off-topic and as an aside, my OCC version is 6.7.0. Are there benefits from upgrading? Is it safe to do this with 0.16?

Using 0.17 and I'm getting an error:

"Computing Result failed with an error: non-shape object in sequence"

How do I identify the non-shape object to fix it?

1) are you doing connection on the FCStd file or on the STEP file? You have to do it on the STEP file
2) in the STEP file you need to select only Part objects avoiding axis and container
3) if in your STEP files you have only solid objects, you shouldn't have issues...
4) note that if you have parts that don't have intersections (detached) you have to connect them separately

Hi Maurice.

1. The STEP file
2. At the moment I'm selecting groups of "SOLID" objects (denoted as per my screenshot on the first page).
3. See point 2.
4. I'm selecting adjoining parts but still getting errors.

Thanks very much for your efforts on this, but I don't think it's worth pursuing much further.

@Zumer, I realise that (I covered this in a reply to NormandC). My issue is that I don't want to supply a full set of manufacturing drawings.
