Sketch rotation

Post by Bill Daniels »

I'm baffled. I have a sketch I want to make into a solid by rotation using the rotation tool in the Parts Design. It insists on rotating about the wrong axis. I want to make something like a balloon tire not a wok. Changing back and forth between the "Horizontal axis" and "Vertical Axis" does nothing.

Place a construction for the axis and select it as sketch axis from the Revolve > Axis pulldown menu.

I'm sorry. I just didn't form any mental images from that. Construction? Axis pulldown window?

You can also change to the Part WB and select Revolve, then select the X Axis from the Revolve menu.

Sorry my own self, should of been more clear. If you take a look at your sketch in the file I attached, (go to edit it) you will see a small construction line (blue line - Sketcher ConstructionMode), 500 mm down from the bottom of your sketch. that construction line becomes "Sketch Axis 0" that can be selected from the Revolve Axis pull down menu. Move that construction line down to 1 m and you will double the radius of the Revolve.

Make more sense now?

Hello,

I would like to point out that the Part Design Revolution wiki page is not fully up-to-date. The legend on some images is outdated and confusing.

This is more current: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3674#p28867
