Export Dwg-Dxf

Post by peterkegels »

This morning i discovered this Freecad. Drawing system is great an easy. But export Dwg, Dxf is not working.
First problem: Cannot find Tiegha File Converter.
No problem. I installed it.
Now he don't give any message, but is not saving the file as well.

How can i export the Freecad Files to dwg, dax, of 3ds of Skp?

Many thanks. Hope someone can help me out.

Hi Peter, Welcome to FreeCAD and the forum. Look for the mod's to move this thread to the Help section where it probably belongs. At the top of that section, The first thread, right below the NewTopic* button - IMPORTANT: Please read first before asking for help - should be read and followed.

Not knowing exactly what your trying to export, it is hard to say what might be happening, but I can give you some general information at this point. First, it might help to give a quick look at - FreeCAD and DWG Import (basically the same thing relates to export as well). DXF and DWG export 2G on the XY plane only.

I see you mention the SKP format. The best format to exchange data between FreeCAD and Sketchup is the DAE format. You'll need to have pyCollada for that.

Once this thread get's moved, and we can get your FreeCAD info as well as an example file your having problems with, we'll be in a much better position to help you directly and get you going. ;)

I tried this: https://github.com/yorikvanhavre/draft-dxf-importer
But this pad: C:\Users\yourUser\Application Data\FreeCAD is not existing on this windows. For that reason i created the FreeCAD file myself in: C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\FreeCAD
But that is not working.

Hope we can cover this problem.
Many regards.

@peteerkegels

Please don't double post on the same issue. One of the moderators is sure to point this out to you.
Use this post as it already has your About FreeCAD info.

We need to get .dxf working first. FreeCAD uses the TeighaFileConverter to convert .dxf to .dwg internally.
Can you please post a screen shot of the contents of your macro directory to make sure that the required .py files are installed correctly. It should look something like this.

Hey sgrogan,
Thx for your support.
No idea how to get the print-screen in this forum.
But it is the same.
Only your macro test is not included in my list.
Path: ..\Peter\AppData\Roaming\FreeCAD
Many regards.
Hope we find the problem.

Wiki: You might need to set the path to the converter executable manually, in the menu Edit -> Preferences -> Draft -> Import/Export options. => I cannot find Draft in that pop up window.

To show a screen shot use the win7 snipping tools. It is usually in the start menu. If not, Start Menu > all programs > accessories > snipping tool

Save as a file (.png or .jpg) and upload as an attachment to the forum. I don't need the macro folder see below.

In FreeCAD goto View > Views > and check Report view and Python console.

Now export your circles as .dxf

Post a screen shot of your FreeCAD at this point.
