Hi!
I just looked at the new icon of Part Thickness. It looks not really different from the old one, which I link in here from artwork wiki page...
This icon is poor. PartDesign's variant of it is much better.
But it suddenly struck me, that a name like "Hollow out" would describe what it does much better.
What do you think?
rename "Thickness"?

+1
A Sketcher Lecture with in-depth information is available in English, auf Deutsch, en français, en español.
Re: rename "Thickness"?
If you want to rename it i would prefer "Make hollow" above "Hollow out"
Re: rename "Thickness"?
I once made one which actually showed the operation. It was never merged.DeepSOIC wrote:This icon is poor.
I don't like the slanted face, it looks like the original PartDesign Draft icon (which was better than the new one btw ) but modified.DeepSOIC wrote:PartDesign's variant of it is much better.
LOL. I said exactly that *YEARS* ago. Nothing came of it.DeepSOIC wrote:But it suddenly struck me, that a name like "Hollow out" would describe what it does much better.

In CATIA, Solidworks and Inventor, it's called a shell command or feature. This would obviously induce confusion as a shell is already an existing shape.
In Solid Edge, it's called "thick shell". Not a bad one IMHO as it refers to thickness.
And in CATIA, Thickness seems to refer to adding thickness to a surface or existing solid (see screenshot). It's more logical than FreeCAD's current use for thickness.
Re: rename "Thickness"?
Hollow out. Hallowed are the Ori.
(I know it doesn't rhymes, it just popped in my head )

Could you detail any tweaks you think are needed in the original feedback thread ?NormandC wrote:it looks like the original PartDesign Draft icon (which was better than the new one btw )
I'll be able to apply the tweaks in an upcoming vulture pass (there's some sketcher stuff and Techdraw icons I need to run by in a week or two)
