FreeCAD Icon for Ubuntu

Post by chrisb »

I have - of course - FreeCAD in the launcher. I would like to have the FreeCAD logo on the icon, as I think I used to have in some former version.

Hi Chris,

Could you post your FreeCAD info? This will tell which version of Ubuntu and FreeCAD you're using.

No problem here with the latest freecad-daily.

Assuming you are using the freecad-daily package, the "/usr/share/menu/freecad-daily/menu" text file looks for the icon in /usr/share/freecad-daily/freecad.xpm. Can you check that the icon is indeed on your system?

Thanks for looking. The icon is in the requested place and I can display it.

I want to point out, that this is not a recent error. Probably it is something that lies beyond FreeCAD, but other programs like inkscape or fontforge handle the icon as expected.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning that I don't have the stable version on this system. For a test I created the path /usr/share/freecad/ and copied the icon there, but it didn't help. It is not a really important matter, so don't put too much effort in it.

If you remove the application launcher from Left dock and after search for it in Dash again does the icon show correctly there?

No, it shows only the default white paper with a folded corner.

Same situation with a completely new user, just to exclude weird user settings.

I installed a FreeCAD 0.14 (!) from the package manager. It shows the icon correctly, perhaps the only thing that is better in that ancient version :) .

If you will install both FreeCAD 0.16 from stable PPA and FreeCAD 0.17 from daily PPA you should get application icon you expect.
