Install the last stable version.

Postby EduardoFC13 » Sat Feb 08, 2014 12:30 pm

Hi mat@s,

I am trying install Freecad 0.13 on ubuntu. These are datas of my system:

OS: Ubuntu 13.04
Platform: 32-bit
Version: 0.14.3065 (Git)
Branch: master
Hash: c3e8a1579b285f4406ac9d3ed8d22f7cc4aa7ed9
Python version: 2.7.4
Qt version: 4.8.4
Coin version: 3.1.3
SoQt version: 1.5.0

My problems is that I want to use the stable version (0.13) and when I install it appears me the version 0.14.

What commands do I need to remove version 0.14 and install 0.13 since console?

regards and thanks mat@s ;)

Did you install this version 0.14 with your package manager from the daily PPA? If so it will replace version 0.13. I can't remember which version Ubuntu 13.04 had, but the last version 0.13 for Linux was version 1830. There is another PPA called stable, that provides this last version of 0.13 to Ubuntu distros that had older FreeCAD versions in the original official Ubuntu repositories.

If you install any version of FreeCAD from a package manager it will replace any other versions, so you will only have one version of FreeCAD at a time.

If you want more than one Version of FreeCAD then you have to compile it from source code. You should compile FreeCAD in a "out of tree" build directory (i.e. NOT inside the directory that contains your source code). Then do NOT install FreeCAD, just run FreeCAD directly from the build location. You go to the build directory then open the "bin" directory that you will find in there, and then run the file "FreeCAD". If you do this then you can have any number of FreeCADs on your system.

Probably the easiest way to go back to FreeCAD 0.13 with your GUI package manager, is to remove the PPA from your sources list, then remove FreeCAD and then install FreeCAD again (first adding the "stable" PPA if relevant to your version of Ubuntu).

You ask how to do this with the console, but honestly if you have to ask how to do that then you do not know enough about Linux to make this a good idea. It is far easier, and much safer, to do it with the GUI.

Have you ever heard of packages.ubuntu.com? :roll:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?suite ... ds=freecad

It shows the ancient v0.12.5284 which is why I created the freecad-stable PPA. Only Ubuntu 13.10 has the latest stable release (0.13.1830).

Hi mat@s,

I have managed install the stable version Freecad :)

1-> To see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMxAtDlEHlo to add PPA on Linux.
2-> Instalation on console:

Type (or copy-paste) these commands in a console to add the PPA and install FreeCAD along with the documentation:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freecad-maintainers/freecad-stable

Then:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install freecad freecad-doc

Regards.

What version of FreeCAD am I running?

I downloaded “FreeCAD-0.16.6706.f86a4e4-WIN-x64_Installer-1.exe”. from http://www.freecadweb.org/wiki/index.php?title=Download ; on 04-Mar-2017. But “Help | About FreeCAD” show, =on the screen= gives:
Version => 0.14
Revision number => 3343 (Git)
Release date => 2014/03/14 19:06:56
Operating system => Windows Vista
Platform => 32-bit
Branch => libpack
Hash => 8dcb...59fb
(Beware, the previous was entered by hand. There may well be typos in it. And I omitted most of the Hash.)

On the other hand, the "Copy to Clipboard | Paste here" gives:
OS: Windows 7
Word size of OS: 64-bit
Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit
Version: 0.16.6706 (Git)
Build type: Release
Branch: releases/FreeCAD-0-16
Hash: f86a4e411ff7848dea98d7242f43b7774bee8fa0
Python version: 2.7.8
Qt version: 4.8.7
Coin version: 4.0.0a
OCC version: 6.8.0.oce-0.17

Thanks.

New plan! Now both agree: (a) Help | About FreeCAD and (b) Help | About FreeCAD | Copy to Clipboard. They say Version 0.16; Release date 2016/07/02 10:32:16.

Recommendation: make my bug report medium priority. I feel it is not a show-stopper, but it is confusing.

And I'll try to remember to always use "Copy to Clipboard".

Hello Cyber3DK,

Welcome here.

Can you tell us what you did different the second time to get the same info?

Was “FreeCAD-0.16.6706.f86a4e4-WIN-x64_Installer-1.exe” the first version of FreeCAD you installed on your PC?

:-) Looks like an uninitialized variable to me.

Here's what I recall:
a) Downloaded FreeCAD and started it.
b) Messed around a bit with Sketcher.
c) Help | About FreeCAD. Result: the first message. (Was it version 0.14? I don't remember.)
d) I started the report addendum and wanted to say the version of FreeCAD: Help | About FreeCAD | Copy to clipboard.
d1) Surprise: version 0.16!
d2) I finished the addendum and sent it off.
Q.E.D.

Good hunting.
Regards.
