congratulations

If I would find a student, would it still be possible to add a new project from our side? An idea would be add z88 as a second solver to FEM. This is on my LongTerm ToDo and I have some code already. The appropriate developments to add even more solvers should be included. There has been a lot requests in the regard of OpenFoam already.

Yes of course. The studends are free to propose whatever they want, the project ideas we have come up with are only a hint on what we could imagine and what would be mentored for sure. So if you have someone capable and are willing to do the heavy part of the mentoring (of course we all will help the student too) than your idea is very welcome! Make sure you read the GSoC guide about mentoring before commiting: http://en.flossmanuals.net/GSoCMentoring/mind-the-gap/ (the whole chapter about mentoring is interesting)

We will have maximal two students, but if we have any depends on what kind of proposals we receive, if they are high quality or not. So it may happen that we need to decide between multiple good ones and it may also happen that we will have no or only one good proposal so that we can share all our mentoring power, we will see :)

have any chance of making some marketing fuzz help us to spread the word!
The 0.16 release could seam like a nice opportunity to get publicity on many of the open source news sites around.

To maximise the impact and control the message of such an opportunity, it could be beneficial to assemble a media package.

Possible contents of such package, in random order:
Demo video of features.
Some nice screenshots.
List of strenght/weekneses
List of what is needed.
How students can help in Google Summer of code 2016
Why students should choose FreeCAD
Release notes

Libre Graphics World featured the 0.15 release.

To maximise the effect of such campaign, identifying all possible outlets for this package.
Need help? Feel free to ask, but please read the guidelines first

In any case it could be interesting to add a note abut this on the 0.16 release notes page. Curious to see what will happen!

I'm glad to announce that BRL-CAD as umbrella organization and with them FreeCAD has been selected for this years GSoC program!

https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/org ... 174596096/

This is very exciting. Now it is our task to raise interest in our projects and find capable students writing high quality project proposals. So if you know anyone that could be interested or have any chance of making some marketing fuzz help us to spread the word!
That's great!!!!! Well done all involved!!

I keep tabs on Blender development and I saw this email from Ton today:
Ton Roosendaal wrote:I also want to point students here at FreeCAD and other open source CAD projects.

BRL-CAD is an umbrella vor 6 CAD projects even:

Please support them! We really need good open source specialized CAD programs!
