I like release names - as long as they are purely numeric and in a sequence. Everything else is for me difficult and unnecessary to remember. If we take Ubuntu: No problem to recognize the sequence of the releases - if I see them. But if I have a search in the web which contains a release name I have to search the corresponding name first. And that's an absolutely unnecessary step.

Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
I wouldn't worry too much. As it would take a lot of work and effort to communicate the name through and with artwork and things like that. FreeCAD as a project currently isn't in all that good condition when it comes to things like that anyway.cox wrote:Oh, no please, no release names.triplus wrote:Animal names could i guess be used for individual FreeCAD releases if they would have such codename.
P.S. But note that it was done in the past and the codename is Vulcan ever since.
Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned

Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
Punching the gear with freedom? Well a fun idea. But i must say where should i see the "g" or "R"? And what should the "g" stand for?
Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
It confuses me terribly, forcing me to have a lookup table in my head or googling for it. I would not mind terribly, if it would serve any purpose, but it escapes me.Mika38 wrote:May I ask why?
The only reason I can see it being used is to replicate some propitiatory marketing ploy.
But I am certainly willing to reconsider if someone can come up with good reasons.
I think chrisb is wording it nicelychrisb wrote:I like release names - as long as they are purely numeric and in a sequence. Everything else is for me difficult and unnecessary to remember.

Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
We already have such scheme. Where we use digits. Codename is a different thing (currently set as Vulcan).
P.S. But that is off topic in this thread.

Re: I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
So, what are we going to do about this logo? The multiple messages in this post show, in my opinion, that lot of contributors want to change the logo. It seems that good alternatives have been proposed. Should we make a vote? or, Should we let the main contributor(s), in charge of the design, decides? We could find an other way to make a decision. Or we could just let this creativity die in the archive of this forum?
