Just downloaded the "Hightres Skies" from the globals-section for Kerkythea and unpacked the jpg-files in "\CADRays-1.0.0\data\maps".

That worked pretty well, so I guess the stuff at Openfootage.net or one of the Equirectangular Panoramas would also work ...

Another thing that came to my mind (haven't tested yet).

Is there a possibilty to append files in CADRays ?
If i am correct, at the Moment the only option is to do all changes (removing/adding of objects) to the assembly in the CAD-System
and then do another export ?
Roland
Every import will append content to the current scene. To clear the scene please use "New" menu option.

In general you do not have to place environment maps or other textures to specific location. Also they will be copied to export directory if you save scene to script.

Please find our new video on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eu_dMMQAhd0! It shows model decomposition and some basic material editing.

Hi,

these are some preliminary renders of parts of a 3d printer I'm designing.

Cadrays already proves to be a really valuable tool !

They look great.
Could you eloborate more on what settings you used to achieve such noiseless clear picture (a lot of my attempts still look a bit "grainy" ...)

Thanks

Hi, thanks !

It's a really basic setup, I just increased the bouncing to 5, clamping is set to 30, I used the default lighting map, about 1 min baking on a GTX 750. I can post the entire setup later.

Could you please post the exported scene? We will take a look at noise issues and will try to figure out that could be done in your setup to improve convergence.

I guess i shouldn't have used standard lighting setup (metal/plastic reflection needs good lighting i suppose).
Will try again with some sample pics and play aorund with lighting and increasing bounces.
If problem persists i will poste sample scenes, thanks ...

Generally, if possible, you need to use light sources instead of emissive materials to decrease noise. Also, large (smooth) light sources are better than small ones. Eventually, the noise will be gone, but it may take a significant amount of time in complex lighting conditions (powerful GPU will help :) ).

Thanks, now i understand better.
I am more used to POV-Ray and Kerkythea. There you have based on your settings a definite computing time and then a window pops
up (eventually a sound as well) telling you that the computing is finished.
Without some sort of progress indicator it is very hard to tell what is finished or not.

Sample (System is Quadcore I5 4750 with Radeon HD 7550)

BTW: I wish we could have better control over the picture size (maybe some "fixed" templates ? In Kerkythea i am used to work with three different resolutions (1024x768 for a quick look and a first control about the settings / 1600x900 for presentation and 1920x1080 for wallpaper or similar use ...)

One more thing: Maybe a pop-up-window upon closing saying "Are you sure ? Wanna save your file first ?" would be great in case of accidentially
closing instead of minimizing the program ...
