I will have a cad contest in FreeCAD.

Post by jakob »

I have a new website and my first contest will be a to do something in FreeCAD. (Everything from scratch)
3d-cad.se / 2014/07/21/cad-tavling-2014/

Sorry for the swedish but if someone is intrested please join.
31 oktober is the last day to send in your task.

1 sep - 31 dec is voteing. And the winner will get his very own pokal, and it will be a intresting test of what you can do in FreeCAD.

Any question or suggestion?

Hello Jakob.

Basically a very good idea.
[I had to use Google Translate to translate the Page from swedish to Englisch but i still had problems
in understanding ...]

My personal thoughts about this:
1) in gerneral an english translation would be fine ...
2) if i understood correctly, you mention a send-in-deadline of 31st of October, but voting starts
at 1st September ? That's not fair ... at least IMHO
3) if i understood correctly, part(s) entering the contest should be printable in 3D ?
Are they going to be printed or only published on Shapeways ?
If print, who will pay ?
4) should model be functional ? realistic ? futuristic ? artistic ?
only single part or assembly with how many min or max parts ?
5) if i remember correctly, 3D print normally has maximum dimensions not to be
ignored, maybe you should mention them ...
6) if i understood correctly, winning prizes consist ATM in being sent a (real ? 3D printed) trophy, maybe with name tag ?
Better you limit the region of participation to Europe or you will pay maybe high shipping costs ...
And please include picture of trophy (and FreeCAD-Model ... hehe ...)
Only first place gets a trophy ?
7) also you could add a link to the User Showcase - Subforum for inspiration ...
8) which person(s) will vote and how will voting take place ?
9) how will results be published ?
10) will contestants be allowed to refer to forum for help in modelling ?

Just my first thoughts ...
Apologies for my english, i am german and trying hard keep up my english ...

Good idea, but I agree with r-frank.......I would like to add, that if you want to make real contest and bring people, good place to start is GrabCAD.com (you need some money for prizes and administration fees), where you will get a lot of attention! Really, most challenges there have many participtans, many entries... (I see your website it's just starting). But anyway, good luck!

Maybe I try to prepare something...
