Do we have "link file" feature?

Do we have "link file" feature?

Post by sangdth »

Hi,

Do we have "link file" feature in FreeCAD? Sometimes I need to design some parts in separate files, then link them into main design file. When I modify part files, it could be updated in main file too.

Best regards.

There is no such feature currently. I'm not sure if it is planned for the Assembly Workbench?

You can model in two different project files and then use File menu.... merge...but this just merges the two projects into one, it is not linking.

Juergen has said that there will one day be the ability in Assembly to have multiple projects files for one project, that would work something like the linking above... after some discussion I think he agreed to have two file formats, one similar to the current system where everything is in one file...and the other some sort of multi file format presumably storing a set of links to other project files or something like that.
