The wiki will not allow upload of FreeCAD-files or PDF, that's why we have the github-repo FreeCAD/examples

As said earlier
r-frank wrote:Hosting at the FreeCAD/Examples-Github Project the files and a png with the draft view with draft diemsnions of the part and an STL-Version
of the part itself (Github can interactively display STL-files).
In the wiki the image plus a link for the file to github and some info about the file (FC version, notes ...) could be displayed.
That's what i am working on right now.
Hopefully i am able to show a first step within the next week ...

Hi r-franck
Did your work advance?
I was thinking about gif file to show the step by step design, without the heavy work of a tutorial...
very easy to do with 0.17 as the show function is according tree. It can help to understand the philosophy, and also can show quickly 2 different approach for one design

Hi Nemesis.

Well, I started downloading all pictures from the Reddit CAD challenge and some from GrabCAD.
Of course, the simple looking parts from GRABCAD turned out to be VERY hard nuts to crack at least with 0.16 part design. :(

What I did realize:
- Some isometric drawings used hidden lines for reference, FreeCAD can't do that in 3D-view
- the draft dimensioning tool is OK for linear dimensions, for radius/diameter/angles it is nearly unusable (may be related to the relatively small parts used)
- using annotations for dimensioning radius/diameter/angles in draft view is doable, but not comfortable
- using drawing wb and drawing dimensioning wb and setting up a drawing with dimensioned ortho views and an isometric view seems to be best choice for 0.16
- i am OK with using 0.17 for personal interest but i wouldn't recommend using 0.17 to new users yet ...

About the videos:
- the parts i have set up so far use up to around 12 features in the part design workbench
- sometimes i used expressions to make sure dimensions used more than once are linked
- max. GIF-Upload size in the wiki is as far as i know 20 MB
- a reasonable resolution for the GIF's seem to be 800x600

Next step would be to set up some test cases for further discussion ...

I did some exercice and add a github repo with gifshowing the step by step process example with 0.17 (feel free tu use it)
now I'm stuck on the 7th one  don't have "clean" way of doing it.
good challenge ;)

20MB for a GIF is quite big, but that's right, maybe for complicated models it is not a good idea.

@nemesis

Great GIFs, they will be very helpful!

Some help with notorious 7th one part ;)
The part is here viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14115
Use a DAG view to see how I made this part and try for your self.

yep, I fought about this way.
but I put as rule to not do a full revolution for this part (just for the exercice)
so I think about using bodies and boolean operations. One body for the central, one for the radius, and on for the external part.

But I got some bug in 0.17 that don't help me a lot
my target is to make the parts in the 0.17 way

Hi Nemesis.

I just noticed something looking at your animated gif.
Can you do me a favour ?

Please open your 1stexample-part and do a geometry check with BOPCheck turned on with the final solid.

Because looking at the face in the lower right corner of your gif makes me think you should get geometry errors there because of a broken model.
I experienced this with other models. The highlighted face suddenly has some "stripes" in it ..
