I think the icons of freecad need to be redesigned
When put the freecad icon with others together, it feel a bit ugly.
I make one, of course it need to add more artistic treatment.
Since gimp has magazine, why freecad has not one.
ps. today I draw a SVG for openscad. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File ... ad_SVG.svg

Glad to hear someone works with the icon.
FC-red.ico is better.

The idea is very interesting; I especially like the idea of turning the gear into a "C". However I'm not sure those icons will look so great at a small resolution, and additionally, I use a circular icon theme, and it might be a little tricky to squeeze that icon into a circular form, whereas the current "F" plus "gear" works nicely:

AFAIK providing a logo suggestion for FreeCAD 0.17 to be evaluated was offered to 2 individuals. As they are doing the most work in artwork area ATM. If that happens we will likely need to evaluate that proposal first.
P.S. If not sure someday in the future new logo challenge quest can be pursued. And interested participants can provide finished work for evaluation. We did that in the past and the logo changed. Therefore for sure it can be done again in the future.

I also thought a little bit about the FreeCAD logo. With the suggestion for a gear for the C and a more technical F, I came to this first draft:
Then I reminded about a book about logo design I read some time ago. First, a logo should be easy. You should easily be able to sketch it with some lines on a sheet of paper. Then it should not include any characters. The F in the current logo looks "strange" for people who don't use the Latin alphabet. That almost all of the big, commercial CAD programs use Latin characters in their logos doesn't make it better.
With this in mind I came to a completely new design. It is easy to remind, can be scaled down to small sizes, so it is also usable in the menu bar and hopefully is unique.
The lightning is not OK and such, but I stopped at this point. It is true, that it does not work very well for a logo for several reasons. Hi,
I also had played a time ago with an alternative design because I didn't like the actual one:

Hi Pablo.
I was actually hoping you and @agryson would try to work together and prepare a logo proposal for FreeCAD 0.17.
P.S. I will understand if that for whatever reason won't happen.
