J-Head Light Mount for Smartrap

Post by quick61 »

Made this mount with micro switch mount for auto leveling to hold the J-Head Light hotend on a Smartrap 3D printer. Still a work in progress. The FreeCAD files can be found up on Thingiverse for those that are interested. Hope to have my Smartrap printing in a few days and this will be one of the first things I make once it's calibrated.

Nice work. Once it is printed we want to see images too. ;)

Thanks, and sure thing. Once I get this printer going, I should end up having a few things posted here that will show "From FreeCAD to The Real World" type of projects. :) I think those are always good to see.

Yes, Pov-Ray 3.7. Script exported from FreeCAD and just tweaked the reflective plane, (I have a template with it), added roughness and moved it down a bit. Then tossed a couple of textures on, Phong Shiny for the plastic and dull for the cap screws. Nothing fancy. :)

Just made my first test print tonight and it came out almost perfect. A few little adjustments and I'll be printing out this part.

So you got a nearly functional SmartRap? Cool!

No, I got a fully functional Smartrap. ;)

The little guy seems to be doing a pretty good job too. My main issues are with the slicers and getting the settings tweaked, but that is getting better with every new print. My last 20mm calibration cube came out 20.06 x 20.06 x 20.13 and with a layer height of 20 microns, that's pretty close.

Anyway. here are a couple of pix of the parts. 2 of the 3 were printed with the workflow - FreeCAD design > FreeCAD CuraEngine Plugin > Gcode on SD card > 3D printer. Other than a little bug in the Macro, (cblt2l :ugeek: is looking at it now), everything is looking good. The 3rd part was sliced with Repsnapper which was launched with another FreeCAD Macro, (Macro 3d Printer Slicer), that exports the part to the program. IMO, FreeCAD + 3D printer = perfect fit.
