Re: My ignorance is frustrating lol, simple cut?
To solve this with freecad. You need to import your stl. then go to part workbench. Select mesh part then use part menu dropdown and select "create shape from mesh" Now you will have a new object in tree. Select this object, and again in part menu select "convert to solid" Now yo...

I couldn't access your file. If its 1mb or less you can attache it here.
if its bigger, you should use a file share service that wont require an account to access the files.

Re: Need help "sweeping" a face into another, not sure what to call it?
I think sweep or loft should do what you want. I'm leaning towards sweep. Sweep will need a path sketch or other wire frame style "path" line to follow. You can't use a sweep path from outside the body directly, but you can clone or link to it and include the copy in your body. I usually j...

Re: Sweeping with a solid object
I have an almost solution that can possibly work well. Before i describe my way. I'd like to suggest making a little more room for the hammer to fit in the socket. I have made a similar mistake many times. First time I 3d printed mating threads. I made the male thread, then cloned it and subtracted ...

Re: Making a pad
Hi alfredopalhares I see a lot of problems in your file. I can tell your new at freecad  . Welcome First. I don't think you can sweep a looped path. I think path needs a start and an end, and the profile sketch placed at the start. One way to avoid this with symmetrical shape is to just swe...

If this de-featuring tool creates a tree from a step model. I would use that heaps. Currently I am making a copy manually..... Not often, but enough ....
Tried using the Part menu tool. Seems to be greyed out even with an imported .step part selected? Instructions?

Re: How to use all your ram and crash freecad
P.S. I figured out a better way.
I simply used the PART workbench Extrude feature to extend the spiral in a third dimension. Hardly used any resources. Looks fine for what i wanted.

Freecad 0.19 is the best.

Re: Install multiple versions of freecad ubuntu
update. I saw this thread https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=27992 Which suggested I may have better luck if I uninstalled my other versions. Did an apt remove on stable and daily, and an auto remove after reboot to clear out the dependencys. No joy with the legacy build. mongrel@CADboss:~...
