I think wood and other anisotropy should be represented by a field (can be spatially varying), and certainly not a vector defined in the material. Wood can be bent (e.g., steamed to make ribs in a boat), carbon fiber can be oriented arbitrarily, etc. Note that a vector (field) is not sufficient for...

For name conflicts, files are referred to internally using a UUID created when the model/card is created. This will make name conflicts irrelevant.
