Update on the development of the OpenFOAM CFD workbench (CFDOF)

Dear all We would like to share the latest extensions to the OpenFOAM CFD workbench ( https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21576 ). The majority of the work focussed on the extension to turbulent flow and the implementation of meshing utilities that allow us to model more representa...

with the Cartesian mesher. But once again, not the mesher is the problem. The mesher is working excellent. In the file "createPatchDict" faces which were defined as i.e. "hull" were suddenly defined as "default Faces". And that is what I do not understand. In the refin...

Re: Save a STL file with multi-regions

The new CFD WB might provide some help in this regard: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic. ... 6&start=40

It creates a multi-element stl instead of exporting separate stl files for the faces. This ensures a watertight geometry and allows for feature edge extraction.

Re: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) workbench using OpenFOAM

Just to add to Oliver, for the cut-cell Cartesian mesh generators the CFD WB write a multi-element stl which contains all the faces of the mesh object and the points are scaled to meters when the STL is written. The WB then performs a similarity check which generates a createPatchDict to rename the ...

Re: Fork of CFD workbench

... meshing ... mesh region, for bigger meshes this will not work, or ... with my model it did not work, but in general it us unclear what you mean with the relative size, should it be read as percentage? GMSH is not well suited to large meshes one typically require for CFD, we are currently busy i...

Re: Fork of CFD workbench

PS: yes I think it is probably preferred to have it as an extra WB, but it should be added to the Addon manager :) +1 and the name change would facilitate this. Some additional work would be needed on windows though. The windows build linked above handles the dependencies :D I see some stuff in bin...

Re: Fork of CFD workbench

We really hope the community would find this useful. @HoWil. The CFD WB makes heavily use of the FEM functionality, but Bernd suggested a while back to Qingfeng that it might make sense to start a new WB. From our perspective, we want to keep the link as close as possible and ensure there are not du...

Re: How about a general FemMaterial.py to suport Mechancial, Thermal, Fluidic and ElectroMagnetic

If nonlinear material, like ideal gas model for compressible gas, I think it should goes into another takspanel as nonlinear (properties as a function of T) solid material Already in Fem. If gas can be easily expressed in a simple UI , it can into into femmaterialtaskpanel. in later stage. as the t...

Re: How about a general FemMaterial.py to suport Mechancial, Thermal, Fluidic and ElectroMagnetic

In light of the discussion above, I am trying to come up with an elegant way to keep the code as modular as possible and also solver independent, while still making sure it is intuitive for the CFD user (my FEM knowledge is very limited and it seems the FEM WB has a workable solution in place?). Cur...

Re: Test request: OpenFOAM solver for FemWorkbench

We added a couple of extensions to Qingfeng's CFD WB https://github.com/jaheyns/FreeCAD.git and it would it would be great to hear what you think. I have also attached the case set up that reproduce the elbow tutorial from OpenFOAM. It is now possible to run the solver from the workbench. The view r...
