Re: Building a new Computer

Hi! If you are buying a new computer specifically because FreeCAD is slow for you, then maybe analysing FreeCAD's performance with 'perf stat' (apt install linux-perf) might be worthwhile. 'perf' allows to do many types of advanced profiling, but the 'stat' subcommand just collects statistics withou...

Re: grep meister

Ah, you only expect to run this once on a rather small set of files. In this case my solution is clearly overengineered - probably would take longer to debug the command line then to do things semi-manual: I propose just renaming the files manually and for the content use this simplified command: se...

Re: grep meister

You are asking a lot, and it's not clear what you mean recursively: walk a folder tree and process all files or actually recursively substitute strings? The tool to replace file contents is sed. Something like sed -i -e 's/string1/string2/g' filename1 filename2 ... should work. The tool to change fi...

Re: robust references workbench

Thanks for the information, that's very interessting. A few preliminary results from looking at the data structures (classes) of OCC and FreeCAD: There seems to be a big difference in how modelling data is managed. OCC tries pretty hard, to not copy data structures unless absolutely necessary (modif...

Re: Parametric Arch modelling

Just curious if you are using OCC7.10, AppImage or whatwever to have problem solved? I am on Fedora which has OCE 0.6.8 only - Przemof had tried to help me to built a rpm of latest OCC for Fedora, but i have too little knowledge (+ time) to make it. I'm on debian (having OCE 0.6.9 ATM), so I downlo...

robust references workbench

Hi all, the latest flurry of threads about topological naming got me thinking: Is there any tool in FreeCAD to explore topology information? I'm thinking about something like "Scene inspector" or "Dependency Graph" but for OCC data structures ... I guess some information can be queried from the pyth...

Re: Parametric Arch modelling

Searching the forum for the error message suggests, that this might be caused by old OCC (newest OCE actually), so I will try updateing this.

Edit: With OCC the problem is indeed gone.

Re: Parametric Arch modelling

When I add these Windows to a Section, then I get an error from the corresponding ArchView: App::Document::_RecomputeFeatuer(): Unknown exception in Feature "ArchView" thrown I'm quite surprised and don't know how to debug this ATM. I have been able to narrow this down now: The problem is triggered...

Re: Parametric Arch modelling

@triplus: Yes, I know that I don't have to use the Arch workbench, but it does offer lot's of good stuff, so better pondering how to improve it than to bypass it completely... @bernd do I understand you correctly: You are drawing the entire wall plan (of one floor) in one sketch, then convert to dra...

Re: topological identification of vertexes on a part

@microelly2 it seems the forum ate a (rather lenghty) reply from me. In short: I will test you code when I have time.

I hope to rewrite my post eventually.
