Re: [SOLVED]CAM help needed on mirrored part

So is what that part looks like as a failed aluminum casting with the bearing housing cast as one piece. Metal wasn't hot enough, changing over from charcoal to propane to fix the issue.

Re: CAM help needed on mirrored part

Thanks for the feedback. I like to see models coming out of the virtual world becoming real. You ain't seen nothin' yet. Those foam pieces are future gantry arms for the MK2 build of the plywood-junk machine that cut the foam. 23mm thick cast aluminum. 1 1/2in OD tubing for ways/rails which will be...

Re: CAM help needed on mirrored part

Okay, just to finish up: The machining strategy in the screenshot above allowed a novice user like myself with a non-simplified 3D model to produce fully usable parts with a cnc router made out of scrap plywood and other junk running LinuxCNC via an old Dell and a serial port. The entire job took ar...

Re: CAM help needed on mirrored part

btw, your sketch is over-complex. I know you mean well, but I have no idea what I'm looking at. As for my original problem, it was caused by a misunderstanding. I thought that I would need an array, and now I know better. The attached screenshot is the machining strategy I am running because it's t...

[SOLVED]CAM help needed on mirrored part

I'm looking to set up to use two tools to carve both of these out of one sheet of styrofoam. I want to start with roughing the triangles using a 1/4in bit, and then switch to a much longer 1/8 endmill for the finishing passes and then all the rest. I don't need to know how to set up a basic cutting ...

Re: thread milling?

I'm hoping that the machine will handle cutting 4140 That should be entertaining with a router. Wear your safety glasses. :o Gene I don't have a lathe. The workpiece is going to be over 12inches long. The machine-base is going to have a flanged hole installed in the front to allow for very tall obj...

Re: thread milling?

I'm not sure if it's meant to be used with say a helix op? I have not used thread milling, either, but I believe the helix is built in. The TM operation uses G2 and G3 codes, which already have helix behavior as part of their intrinsic functionality. Try it and see. Gene I can't at the moment. (1)I...

Re: thread milling?

Path->Specialty Operations->Threadmill. I think it's an experimental. I've never used it because I don't have any threadmill tools. It's mlampert's baby. This is the only place I can find anything that says "thread milling" so far, and I also have not used it, yet. Definitely going to be ...

Re: Making a spoilboard...cont.

this is no longer done :?: Well, Path workbench has the PathArray function, which is much faster than the patterns. Well, fast, and my cnc router in the same sentence? Not so much. Running it on 36volt 115 when I want to be running it on 48volt 240. That's a next year kinda thing. Trust me, it ain'...

Oh hey, so THIS is why it keeps freezing: Appimage problems in Fedora 34 https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=58351#p510504 At first the solution for this wasn't working - said command not found. Added executable permissions to both and now appimagetool is humming away in the backgro...
