Re: Carbon Copy sketch orientation

Reviving this thread in case it helps someone. I realized the right way to approach this is to make a copy of the master sketch in each body, and that copy should have the same attachment as the master. Then you can use External Geometry (instead of Carbon Copy) to reference the master sketch. Expla...

Carbon Copy sketch orientation

I use a master sketch for my current model. The master sketch needed to be rotated 90 degrees to be properly oriented with the other one I drew. Now, using Carbon Copy from another body/sketch, the sketch is copied properly but is rotated 90 degrees. I'm stuck between drawing everything sideways, or...

Re: Sketch lines all go black

Reproduced in 0.20 on first computer, same behavior as before. Second computer continues to not have this issue. I'm experimenting with what does and does not work atm, I can still select individual elements and e.g. add constraints to them, but no visual feedback on selections. Box select does not ...

Re: Sketch lines all go black

This is not really serious I'll have to verify, but I don't think it's just missing colors, a chunk of functionality doesn't work. For example, if I wanted to move the 80/20 extrusion in the sketch in my screengrab above, it won't let me drag-select and move, I can only drag individual vertices. Br...

Re: Sketch lines all go black

Reviving this because the following steps are repeatable for me. I was following this post to clean up a DXF file, following these steps: 1. Open Rexroth-8 981 ... 200MM as linked in above post, in Draft workbench 2. Shift+B and box select everything exception the cross section, and delete 3. Still ...

Re: Some Tutorials on Methodology (v0.17) - Master Sketch, Skeleton Geometry, Spreadsheets

Master sketches and skeleton geometry are very similar, they just achieve the same effect (having master geometry) using different techniques (sketches vs datum geometry), that's the only distinguishing feature of them as I've used them

Some Tutorials on Methodology (v0.17) - Master Sketch, Skeleton Geometry, Spreadsheets

I've been experimenting with methodologies for FreeCAD 0.17 lately, and while I'm taking notes, I realized the notes are similar to tutorials. So I thought I would share some thoughts on methodology in FreeCAD 0.17! First, a brief description of methodologies I've come across: There are three design...

Re: Modeling best practices tutorial

Chris, thanks for your comments. I agree maybe the wording is negative at first. For the floor datum plane, it is used because the floor can be offset to position the model in the z-direction, with a single parameter. Also, it creates a step of abstraction from the origin planes, because the 'floor'...

Modeling best practices tutorial

Hey all, I wrote a tutorial on designing a chair with parametric modeling using best-practice techniques I've picked up. Makes extensive use of reference planes, and shape binders, so it's definitely written with 0.17 in mind. The idea is to design a chair using parameters (seat height, seat thickne...

Crash with referencing other part

FreeCAD 0.17 (full info below) crashes when creating a sketch in one part using a reference plane in another part. Steps for reproduction: Open FreeCAD Create two parts Part and Part001 by default Make a new body in Part Make Part active and make new body Create a datum plane Show the object origin ...
