Re: FEM video for beginner

Last update.
I couldn't made z88 solver work, probably this is due to how z88 is built. In fact, z88 has many binaries each one of them responsible for a specific analysis and also linked together.

Re: FEM video for beginner

I installed gmsh via homebrew and now I have one error which is referred to the "open cascade", so i tried to reinstall gmsh via homebrew adding open cascade but still doesn't seem to work.

Edit.
Gmsh now work. I installed using "brew install gmsh --with-opencascade" and it had worked.

Re: FEM video for beginner

Well, I'm installing GMSH by homebrew and then I'll add the path to the fem preference.

In order to try to use z88 I'm downloading it again and I'm going to see if there is a way to set the right binary.

Could you please tell us how you solved the problem. Others may have it too.
I simply added the right path in the fem preference pane.
In my case, homebrew installed Calculix in /usr/local/Cellar/calculix-ccx/2.11_2/bin/ccx_2.11

Re: FEM video for beginner

I think that the problem is the path o the binaries, both for gmsh and z88. I downloaded z88 from the website but i don't know which binary I should use since in the bin folder there are a lot of binaries. Using the general binary called z88aurora doesn't seem to work. When I launch the analysis in ...

Re: FEM video for beginner

I have two problems: 1) GMSH doesn't work. Or better. Following the procedure used in the video the solid doesn't get meshed. If I check the report I obtain what is showed on the attached picture. I don't know if this is due to the position of the GMSH binary. In preference I left the default settin...

Re: FEM video for beginner

OSx 10.12. Sierra
Qt4 seems to work better. Using Qt5 I have some mouse issue and the pipeline does not work.

Edit. Seems that gmsh does not work properly. If I try to mesh an object I do not obtain any result although the gmsh say the process is done.

Re: FEM on Mac OSX

Thanks bernd. I'm already participating at that thread and I found the video really helpful.
But I think I need some much more simplified tutorial since I don't even know how to model a solid to mesh.

Re: FEM video for beginner

]1) Your fem preference panel is quite different from mine could it be due to the version of freecad running on mac? (The stable version for mac is 0.16). If you work with FreeCAD FEM it is highly recommended to use latest FreeCAD 0.17.x development version ! There have been tons of fixes and impro...
