You might consider a loft between offset rotated polygons for your purpose.

Re: stl file convert to solid not success

Manifold solids can't have faces within the outer shell. I downgraded the object to faces in draft, deleted the three faces of the "corner" of the object, went to the "advanced utility to create shapes" in Part WB, used "select all faces" macro and chose "shell from faces" in the utility, then selec...

Re: how? object positioning along a line in the 3D-room

If the move's not orthogonal but has a line or edge to define the direction, I sometimes trace another line along the vector, make it the length I want the transform to be, and snap the move from the new line's origin to end. It's unwieldy, but accurate.e

Re: STL to STEP Lossless

The boundary surfaces of STEP solids can be composed of polygonal planar facets, that's not impossible. Enclosing a volume is what determines a CAD solid, not the types of surfaces that enclose it.

Re: STL to STEP Lossless

It's a sad truth that stl became so prominent with the rising popularity of 3D printers. What a waste. I've seen, that even a 1.5 million $ printer uses it... The format was designed for 3DSystems' first rapid prototyping machines (around the mid-late 1980s, I've read), and it was not intended to b...

Re: STL to STEP Lossless

Direct conversion of a mesh object into another format doesn't necessarily lower the quality, but the step or iges object can only be as good as the mesh is, sounds like your fundamental problem is the resolution and format of the scan, and bear in mind that the absolute resolution is reduced in inv...

Re: request, create face from solid

Default Draft trimex creates a face with if zero offset, extrusion if >0.

Re: Import .step file to FC: edit, disassembly, select edges

1. Not disassembly. .stp is what's known as a "dumb solid" neutral format, it doesn't have any history, so an assembly is an agglomeration of features. Some apps recognise features like "analytic" faces; planes, conical/cylindrical and spherical/ellipsoids that can be "direct edited" with offsets, t...

Re: Solid from a Curved Surface

Part|Extrude the curved surface orthogonally below and beyond the "base" workplane surface, checking the "make solid" extrusion parameter. Part|Extrude any face or profile with a larger footprint than the curved surface, ie it overlaps on all sides, above and beyond the surface, again making it soli...
