Re: Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

Ahh. Usually, when I use a datum plane. I attach it to one of the axis planes and then calculate by hand where the offset should be. This way the datum plane is only dependent upon spreadsheet cars and the base axis plane.

Re: Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

@chrisb: Humm. Ok, I will just do that then. I guess I do not understand the topo name issue as well as I thought. Wouldn't there be a concern that changes in previous operations could change the number of vertexes or possibly their names? If this happened, the attachment would then be invalid (not ...

Re: Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

My intention of using a datum plane was to avoid the topological naming issue. Hand calculating the reference keeps me from using any of the existing geometry.

Re: Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

Ahh, I see. So to avoid the topological naming issue, I should use a datum plane with hand calculated offsets. But, If I know I am not making any changes to the geometry, I could just use the IntertialCS mapping mode and be done. Also, If I wanted to base several sketches off the same face, I could ...

Re: Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

I see. So I should do the math to generate a DatumPlane and set the normal?

Let me find some paper...

(Is this the right approach?)

[SOLVED] Mapping to Face Not Doing What I Expect

I have an object which has two angled faces. Primarily for a camera mount. I wanted to add a sketch, or two, to the face on the last angled part to hold the screw mounts. Unfortunately, when I select this face and then create a sketch, the sketch is no where close to being aligned with the face. Her...

Re: HS28A Rotary Encoder (Feedback Requested)

One thing to notice is that your way of modeling the clipping parts (with lofts) creates invalid geometry (check with Part/Check geometry). ;) Even if I don't like this much, modeling with Revolve+Draft gives valid solid. Of course oppositely, it makes part more sensible to topological naming. I de...

Re: HS28A Rotary Encoder (Feedback Requested)

Some comments: - We advocate simple sketches, but you can very well unite Sketch and Sketch001. - Sketch001: use equality instead of repeating the same dimension. The construction line is not really needed. - Sketch008 and Sketch009 are in the same position. I'm surprised that this is possible, and...

You are asking for feedback, so I move it to Help forum.
Got it. That makes sense.
