Re: The story behind the OpenCASCADE 's new fork: OpenGeometry
Yes, OCE was a huge boost to the library and, more importantly, to the way of thinking of the people who worked at OCC back then. They were literally forced to start doing real open source (except for the CLA, whose cancellation was never discussed seriously and was strongly rejected from the doorwa...

Re: The story behind the OpenCASCADE 's new fork: OpenGeometry
I might be wrong, but OCE never seemed to improve anything in the modeling functions of the kernel whatsoever. The new Chinese "initiative" puts itself differently, claiming that they have enough resources to take over the entire development. Like hijacking the kernel in a way

Re: The story behind the OpenCASCADE 's new fork: OpenGeometry
My hope is that we (the community) will be able to reuse some of the fixes in the core algorithms, such as Booleans, fillets, chamfers, face removal, and so on. If such contributions are made, then personally I don't care whether the kernel is cloudy or not. However, in order to touch on the existin...

Re: The story behind the OpenCASCADE 's new fork: OpenGeometry
Is this just a copy of OpenCascade sources (which version?) as of now, or does it already contain some patches or fixes?

Re: Freecad often has issues with STEP files exportes from Solidworks
Looks like a visualization problem coming from BRepMesh (faceter from OpenCascade). 2023-11-05_12-16-53.png It is very likely because the contours of holes happened to touch the outer contour of a part, creating a "non-manifold" situation for the faceter: 2023-11-05_12-18-15.png What can b...

Re: Thru-hole in PRO-E not appearing in FreeCAD - please try to reproduce
Unfortunately I cannot help a lot in this approach... I have built some KiCAD Appimage but ATM I'm not able to adapt my AppImage to the new OS version. Do you have some tips on docker images too? May I ask you to give this AppImage a try? http://analysissitus.org/forum/index.php?resources/analysis-...

Re: Thru-hole in PRO-E not appearing in FreeCAD - please try to reproduce
easyw-fc Sorry for my late response, I'm travelling these days and it's hard to stay online. Our experiments with AppImage did not go any further than what was written in the document you came across. We then switched to docker images, and now Situs is being compiled nightly on Ubuntu base image. I...

Re: Thru-hole in PRO-E not appearing in FreeCAD - please try to reproduce
This shape is fine except that OpenCascade's mesher, BRepMesh, cannot process face n. 27. Reexporting with VariCAD seems to magically affect the face's outer contour, and BRepMesh occasionally begins to work, but this is clearly a mesher problem in OCC. The model from VariCAD is no better than the i...

Re: Fillet fails
Incidentally, while the OCCT company is French, software development is done in Russia. I wonder how it's going since the Ukraine invasion, considering most economic ties with the West were severed. From what I can see and say, the majority of the modeling team has left. Bad luck for fillets, etc.

@quaoar Thank you for the quick explanation. I would have liked to know more, but everything from ISO is paying. _http://quaoar.su/files/standards/STEP_Module_and_Resource_Library_(SMRL)_-_version_8_(2019-11)%20(1).zip Although, I don't think this Talmud will give you a good idea of how to use OCC ...
