Re: cannot update to 0.18

I found it increasingly difficult to install multiple, complex applications on the same system and keep their versions up to date. Especially applications that come with long lists of dependencies. For that reason I recently switched to creating Docker containers for things like FreeCAD, Slic3r-PE, ...

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

This is great! Thank you so much.

I finally found some time to overhaul my entire software setup to match my i3 MK3 (boxing the latest versions of FreeCAD and Slic3r-PE into docker containers, upgrading OctoPi ...). This just worked out of the box on first try.

Thanks again,
Jan

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

Chrisb, don't know what slicer you are using, but Cura has settings to force a minimum time per layer. It is actually a whole slew of options. It can slow down the print or it can retract filament, lift extruder and wait. Those options are by default blanked out and need to be enabled in the setting...

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

Hi Shai, thank you for the quick response. First of all, thanks for this tweak! using yous suggested 0.98 / 1.05 scaling I was able to print functional M4 fasteners on my original prusa i3 MK2, with the default print settings. They look even better than mine. Nice! Regarding pull requests, there are...

Re: Converting STL to GCODE .....

I have had good experiences with Cura, both on Linux and Windows. Still using the older 2.7 version as it has features I like that are nowhere to be found in version 3. I also played with Slic3r, but could not get it working properly. Whatever slicer software you use you need to first configure it f...

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

Phew, I thought I had a good printer, but I have some doubts it can do this. I will see tomorrow what will happen here with my 0.4 nozzle and 0.1 layer height. Would you mind uploading the FreeCAD file with your modified parameters for an M4 screw? Here they are. However, for those files to work yo...

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

M4! No way my 3D printer could do that! It probably could with tinkering, but I'm not much of a tinkerer. Yes, this printer had a fair amount of tinkering done. It didn't do that out of the box. Well, the box actually contained a 3D puzzle, not a printer. About a year ago I basically bought the che...

Re: Fasteners Workbench thread and head scaling

No taps and dies involved Amazing. Could you upload an image of an M4 or M5 screw please? DSCF5192_2.JPG Everything in red are 3D printed M4 fasteners. I didn't have a metal hex-bolt in M4 at hand, but the little black setscrew does the job of demonstrating that these printed parts mingle quite wel...

chrisb wrote: Fri Jan 05, 2018 6:13 am do they work out the box or do you rework them with taps and dies?
No taps and dies involved. I scale them so they are tight at first. Turning them against each other a few dozen times focusing on the rough spots makes them work just fine.
