Re: how to construct symmetrical sketches

The construction geometry is there to allow me to keep things in proper relationships when designing the next part. Constraints would do that for you, but first you have to avoid the bad habit of failing to make your Sketches become Fully Constrained. I do wish that there were layers to the constru...

Re: Let's talk about GUI standards - The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Talking about consistency one thing comes immediately to my mind: the different ways of selecting multiple elements, where elements can be sketches wires, edges, vertices, ... - We have e.g. the selection window in Part->Loft, where we have a left side to pick from and move the selected to the righ...

Re: how to construct symmetrical sketches

I would like to use part of a prior sketch in a separate file and copy it into my "master" file. How does one accomplish this? Open the file that contains the Sketch you want to copy, and also open the file into which you want to copy it. Each file will be shown in a separate tab at the bottom of t...

Re: how to construct symmetrical sketches

Because of the following, how would you make separate sketches, and yet keep them in coordination where the internal features can be changed, while keeping them in specific alignments with the outer sketch, and not allowing the outer sketch to change? Sketcher Carbon Copy (previously mentioned), or...

Re: how to construct symmetrical sketches

Here is the problem with doing that, I will have to unconstrain it, because the lines have to be moved, and the upper and lower arc chords have to be shortened without changing the radius, and then have to fully constrain it again. With the Sketch open in Sketcher, why don't you simply double-click...

Re: Let's talk about GUI standards - The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

In short, if we had a UI style guide, what things should be in it? Likely the icon guidelines, written by agryson. They are at the bottom of the Wiki Artwork page, but that can take a while to load: https://freecadweb.org/wiki/Artwork#Guidelines and the guidelines are in FreeCAD Help (press F1) doc...

Re: Improvement Suggestion for f(x) Button in Sketcher Constraints Input Window

type the '=' key, and you can enter the expression immediately. Thanks! I didn't know that. I agree with eivindkvedalen, the current way is very streamlined: I agree as well. after hitting enter the focus could be on the OK button of the contraint dialog, so that one can close the dialog directly b...

I will work through some examples and create a new topic in a day or two.
I made a discussion topic for one of your suggestions if I understood it correctly:

Improvement Suggestion for f(x) Button in Sketcher Constraints Input Window

This idea was originally brought up in the forum by another member but I'm opening this discussion so that I don't forget about it. As an example, create a rectangle in Sketcher, click either the Horizontal Length Constraint or Vertical Length Constraint tool: https://freecadweb.org/wiki/images/0/00...
