Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

You have to constrain the first sketch in a way so that you have a distance constraint defining the distance from the XY-axis. Then you give a name to this constraint. In the other sketches you reuse this distance in an expression of the form FirstSketchName.Constraints.GivenConstraintName Hm. I do...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

You can select the plane and map a sketch to it with "Map sketch to face". Or you select the sketch, select MapMode in the properties and click on the occuring three-dots-button. Sigh. I have attached the file as I've been able to modify it, by changing the attachment point of the datum p...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

Now the question is how to make the cross section sketches align on the datum planes, so that the body does what I want it to, not the craziness. You can select the plane and map a sketch to it with "Map sketch to face". Or you select the sketch, select MapMode in the properties and click...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

... and open the plane parameters for editing, but I don't know where to go from there. regerence 1 seems to say Sketch:Edge6 In that state "Reference1" should be shown selected, i.e. in blue. If it is not, then select it. Then click the crossing point of the X and Y axis. You may try the...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

Right now it seems to be attached to the circle, rather than the center of the plane. Altering pitch rotates it around the attachment point on the circle. If that point was attached to the center of the intersection between the x_axis and the XY_plane, then changing the pitch would rotate the angle...

Re: Step file modifications

openbrain: I'm totally blown away with that. I don't follow it, but will try to make it work. My original approach that did not work, was to try to make solids that I could use to do a boolean subtraction to make the top plate. Of course, what needs to happen in addition, is the holes need to be mov...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

o.k. I have dropped back to the original version and opened it in .18 I can see the datum planes, and select them. datum plane is 240 degrees. So what I want to do is to rotate datum plane 1 so it is much closer to the vertical axis at the bottom. So I make datum plane 1 visible. It sits at 190.08 a...

Step file modifications

I have a .step file that I want to make some changes on. I can open it in freecad, but can't figure out how to alter it. I think I need to convert it to a sketch or series of sketches so I can alter it. It happens to be a milling guide for a rifle. I have attached the freecad save. Specifically the ...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

If you have worked with 0.16 on an 0.18 model and you then go back to 0.18 I am pretty sure that your model is messed up. I would delete all features, keep only the sketches and rebuild the model in 0.18. You can go up in version numbers, but not down. Investigating this any further is a waste of t...

Re: Multiple datum planes and sketches

Please attach your full FreeCAD info as described in the IMPORTANT forum rules linked above. I guess you use some old 0.16 version, which doesn't have the datum geometries. Thanks. Turns out I have .16, .17 and .18 installed, but for some reason, .16 was being used by default for opening up a fcad ...
