Re: Discussion: renaming the graphical commands

I had them separated earlier, but found it much more better to develop to put them together in one file. But this was a minor desition. I do not mind if they would be splitted in Draft if such a restructrue would happen.

Re: FEM mesh: Create mesh groups in Python (exposing C++ functions to Python)

the unit test modules where reorganised in GSoC. There is no good example afterwards. This might help in how to add a unit test. git commit 86930ef

every class needs setUp and tearDown method. They you could copy.

Re: FEM mesh: Create mesh groups in Python (exposing C++ functions to Python)

@bernd I know I asked that already, but I cannot find where we discussed this, whether on github or here in the forum: How to implement a useful unit test for the functions? I already found Mod/Fem/femtest/App/test_mesh.py There I would implement a new method into the TestMeshCommon class, namely t...

Re: Interesting: How to render simulation animations and screenshots using Paraview

Or said in another way, can CalculiX produce that animation of the can being crushed? How would you set the boundary conditions on the moving plane and the contact surfaces? you could give it a try with FreeCAD FEM ... https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=40019&start=10#p340974 but as ...

Re: Interesting: How to render simulation animations and screenshots using Paraview

Explicit: - Impact, penetration, high rate dynamics Ther is a difference between big deformations in structural engineering, mechanical engineering and what you described. What you described are huuuge deformations. Mechanical engineering involves large deformations. This is what CalculiX is capabl...

Re: Interesting: How to render simulation animations and screenshots using Paraview

I'm not sure if CalculiX can do these types of dynamic, big deformation analyses (crush). As far as I've seen, most CalculiX users do static analysis, like those that structural engineers need, analysis of strees and tension, but not big deformation. Depends what a large deformation is ... CalculiX...

Re: FEM analysis issue

stay tuned! We will have group support for Netgen meshes soon! https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=35778 Just keep in mind the FreeCAD motto, "Its done when its done"

Re: Python2 in FreeCAD 0.19 is being abandoned

So, we can no longer expect Py2 FreeCAD 0.19 be as good as Py3 one. In FEM 0.19 Py3 support is allready better than Py2 support. IMHO we should try to keep P2 support if possible for the 0.19 release. Means for sure we should not remove any Py2/Py3 switches in 0.19 release and we should not deactiv...

Re: FEM analysis issue

submeshs are not suppoerted by FreeCAD. Mesh regions and mesh groups are supported. If you have used either of both may be deactivate the preference of automatic constraint group meshing in FEM preferences. This speeds up a lot but could have problems in some circumstances.
