I am trying to understand: are these artifacts normal?

Hmmm... a strange behavior in Blender is not all time...
The models were imported with a 1000 scale... when I had scaled them to 0.001 the Blender view has become fine!

You posted sort of to the right topic, because you used a Part chamfer, but that is another mistake. You should have used the PartDesign chamfer (preferred) The theme does not match the content.
