Re: [WIP] airfoil workbench

A different number of poles for each airfoil of a wing needs some recomputing of the splines to generate spline-surfaces yes, this is a good point: fitting coordinates so that all airfoils from different families are treated equal in FreeCAD is a good idea. So the user selects a start configuration...

Re: [WIP] airfoil workbench

… discretizing coordinates from a spline foil. Chris_G's CurvesWB has a tool "DiscretizedEdge" with different parameter options. One of them is curvature controlled with a special algorithm (???) by angular and curvature properties. Low curvature => extended distances; sharp curvature => small dist...

Re: [WIP] airfoil workbench

I guess "wiggles" can be avoided by some constraints. For example if one only uses the y-values and weights to be used for the optimization. Or use some kind of radial basis function to move the x-values to ensure the order of the values is kept the same. Also I have seen a paper which shows that "...

Re: [WIP] airfoil workbench

Looks really cool. Could this be used to smooth out "wiggles" in existing airfoils, i.e. ones generated by Xoptfoil? I didn't know about this library. Can you share some insights how it works? How is the geometry modified? It uses something called shape functions. Specifically, I am using a formula...

Re: Radio controlled airplane

Must be great to have the goggles on. Does it have impact on your equilibrium when you are standing? It doesn't bother me too much, but everybody is different. My wife can't even watch the videos on the computer without feeling dizzy. The most disconcerting thing for me when I first started doing i...

I flew over the park today and got up close with some vultures.

A beautiful design. Congratulations on successful implementation.
Maybe you put the FreeCAD logo on the wings.

Hey, I like that idea. Maybe I will.

Re: Radio controlled airplane

Here is a video of my first "first-person view" flight with this plane, meaning I was flying with goggles on that showed the video feed from the plane in real time. It was the second flight overall. It is nice and slow and relaxing as intended. Just as a note: the actual video quality is better than...

Re: Radio controlled airplane

Is this small battery pack at the left front all what it needs to fly it? Yes, it's a 2-cell 500 mah lithium polymer battery. That will fly it for about 8-10 minutes. I could use a bigger battery for longer flight time, but of course that adds weight, so I prefer to just fly multiple smaller packs.
