Re: Drilling a hole with a tread in a Part primitve

Part objects can consist of several not connected solids, while in PartDesign we have at most one. I agree thats good if there is a difference. Are you aware if the part design limitation is by design? I had been hoping that sometime in the future the limitation is overcome. I had several cases whe...

FreeCAD can very well do multi body extrusions:
I tried to do that with PartDesign:Pad, but it gave me an error. I must admit I silently translate "Pad" to "Extrusion". It there a reason why its called "pad" and not "extrusion". The function seems the same.

Re: Differences Part Container and PartDesign:Body Container

This question is strange because a Std Part and a PartDesign Body are completely different things, used in completely different contexts. I know that I do not know a lot of things about FreeCAD yet, but I do know how it looks and feels for someone coming from another CAD system. Its very subjective...

Re: Drilling a hole with a tread in a Part primitve

What :!: it's only in Partdesign Wb till V.17 I just tried with my V0.18 to use Pocket to make a hole in a Part:Box cube. Its given me an error. I had to put it into a PartDesign Body, then I could apply a sketch and theapply PartDesign:Pocket. But thats back to PartDesign Workflow. That can't be t...

Drilling a hole with a tread in a Part primitve

FreeCAD is becoming such a great tool that keep recommending it to other people that have been looking into CAD Systemes before. But when trying to explain the basic concepts, I keep stumbling over some Part/PartDesign issues. The Hole thing is still a mystery to me. One main reason for me not using...

Re: Differences Part Container and PartDesign:Body Container

PartDesign body holds a single contiguous solid made of sketches and features. It is sort of build-recipe for one single object. If I would just create a single object in the file (to be used in an assembly with e.g. A2plus) then I would not difference if I had a body or not, correct? Beside being ...

Differences Part Container and PartDesign:Body Container

Although I am beginning to understand (guess) the difference I would like to have a bit better understanding about these two stair icons and how to use them. Part Container (yellow stair) PartDesign Body (blue stair) Is there any comprehensive text in the documentation or the forum that disucusses t...

Re: STEP part non-uniform scale

You are right with your comparison between a Step file and a Box - although sometimes a step is more like a compound containing multiple items -, but you cannot extrude a face of a box either. You can do such things in PartDesign: - Select the STEP object - create a new body The STEP will now appea...
