Re: FHS compliance long term project.

If FreeCAD can be run from the directory where is was compiled I don't need the ability to install multiple versions, but I'm aware that it might be nice to have for some people. Bug hunting is one obvious example. I'd stick to the default version of python unless there are some benefits that are n...

Re: FHS compliance long term project.

When looking at the official repository of Ubuntu Bionic without any external PPA I can install several Python versions in parallel. These are version 2.7, 3.6, 3.7 and 3.8. In order to make this working correctly and avoid that with Py3.6 it loads an extension module of Py3.7 these .so files have ...

Re: FHS compliance long term project.

And the directory can be versioned too so the path could end with freecad-0.19 for example. Restructuring doesn't make much sense if we still keep the multi-version policy. In my eyes this is not only from a python perspective but in general. If we want to gain consistency we should avoid multiple ...

Re: FHS compliance long term project.

At least on Fedora, pure python modules would go into /usr/lib while arch python modules (i.e. .so libraries) go into the appropriate location depending on if they are 32 or 64 bit. (/usr/lib or /usr/lib64). Debian has a arch tuple that works similarlly. I guess python should go into use/lib/python...

Re: Conflict with Python 3.7 / FreeCAD 0.18

I just installed FreeCAD via conda, i.e. "conda install -c conda-forge freecad". In case anyone else has the same problem, the following script (adapted from here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/594 ... nal-script) did the trick for me: short note: if you install freecad from freecad/label/dev...

Re: FC Gear module

You may be right for a single BaseFeature; alas it is not possible to add multiple BaseFeatures, let alone attach them in the body to some feature. you are right. The body is limited to one base-feature... I think that this is a very important discussion, which should have a more prominent place, s...

Re: FC Gear module

The BaseFeature can be used as a profile of a pad-operation in a part-design body. So although the BaseFeature is always inserted at the top of the body (tree-view) it is not necessary to use it as a base-object (If base is referring to the base (top) of the body). So using the BaseFeature as a Feat...

Re: Status of Unwrap Mesh?

The unwrap mesh command allows to unwrap any open surface represented by a triangulated mesh. The method is based on a leastsquare conformal mapping to find an initial flat representation and afterwards uses an iterative fem to minimize the differences between flat triangles and 3d triangles (again ...
