Re: Looking on information on step data structure
These STEP entities are defined in the schemas, the latest are here. https://www.cax-if.org/cax/cax_express.php The CAX-IF recommended practices describe how to use the schemas and what example files look like. https://www.cax-if.org/cax/cax_recommPractice.php However, the recommended practices for ...

Re: STEP data model
The cax-if site provided earlier in this thread is a useful free, authoritative source on STEP. However, much is missing including the details of STEP geometry such as surfaces and trimming. If you find good public sources of this or related information, please post and summarize it. FYI, besides th...

Re: Developing a property set
@yorik it would be useful if the FreeCAD way to handle IFC property sets also could handle STEP user defined attributes, which serve a similar purpose.

The CAX-IF recommended practice for STEP external references is here https://www.cax-if.org/documents/rec_prac_ext_ref_v21.pdf Many CAD modelers, viewers, and translators support STEP external references. https://www.cax-if.org/vendor_info.php?file_id=3&comp_id=5 It contains useful concepts that...

Re: Access to 2D Drawing sheets in STEP files
STEP AP201 and AP202 draughting capabilities were incorporated into AP203 edition 2, which is superceded by AP242. However, Normand is right to point out that STEP translator implementations cover only select portions of a schema. Here are references to how draughting is currently implemented in STE...

Re: Open Source CAD exchange format
STEP already contains shape definitions for both CSG and parametric feature based procedural geometry. The former includes swept solids and boolean combinations. See the article by Goult on part 42 starting on page 108 that mentions CSG. https://books.google.com/books?id=9NYyBgAAQBAJ&printsec=fr...

When GD&T gets added to FreeCAD, it would be useful to be compatible with the CAX-IF recommended practices for future interoperability with other applications. https://www.cax-if.org/documents/rec_prac_polyline_pres_v23.pdf https://www.cax-if.org/documents/rec_pracs_pmi_v40.pdf The OpenCasCade t...

Re: Google Summer Of Code 2016
Re: STEP translation I am already a mentor for STEPcode under the BRL-CAD umbrella submission for CAX. An interested student has already responded regarding a STEP exporter for BRL-CAD. I would be willing to also consider a student for a STEPcode based FreeCAD exporter, but would need help from a me...
