Re: Help with ShapeString and PartDesign

Nevermind. I think it had to do either with an error in my file (which I'll address in another post), or not having visible the Combo View. When I created a simple part, I had no trouble creating text.

Thanks. Sorry for the noise.

Help with ShapeString

Boy, I feel really dumb. I'm stuck on the first step, "Create Shapestring." I've also read the tutorials, and forum comments, without success. When I open my file, nothing is selected in the Tree view, I switch to the Top View, and switch to the Draft Workbench. I click on Shapestring and get a '#' ...

Re: Newbie: Welcoming suggestions and criticism of my design

@openBrain: Thanks for your detailed suggestions. At first, I thought that I had to draw a part the way the printer would print it. I didn't think of rotating it in the slicer. @GlouGlou: Thanks for your innovative suggestion. I didn't think of modeling almost the whole part with a polyline in one g...

Re: Tips for increasing base plate adhesion?

@HarryGeier: Thanks for your thoughts. The nozzle temperature was taken right from the label on the filament. I goosed it up 5-10℃, thinking that this would help the adhesion. Can't really junk the glass plate; it's not my printer. @chrisb: So far, I've just been using the filament that the library ...

Workaround to construct a sketch on a curved surface?

Hello, I'm trying to design a slanted wall support for a home weather monitor display. The back surface of the display is slightly concave, 3/32" in 4". I'd like to place a post that will fit in a keyhole slot on the back of the display. However, I can't create a sketch on a curved surface. Here's w...

Newbie: Welcoming suggestions and criticism of my design

I'm new to 3D printing and part design, and would like to learn more techniques and tips from those who have more knowledge and experience than me. I'm trying to design a holder for 3"x5" index cards, in a portrait orientation, along with two pencils. My design goals were to avoid a blocky, only-rig...

Re: Tips for increasing base plate adhesion?

DeepSOIC, yes, you're right, I posted this here without thinking. Sorry about that.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try your ideas the next time I'm back at the library.

Tips for increasing base plate adhesion?

Hello, all, I'm new at 3D design and printing, and have been using the Lulzbot Mini 2 printer with Cura slicer available at my public library. My current project is a holder for four 18650 cells and a Battery Management System circuit board, from Thingiverse at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3905...

Re: Tolerance for 3D printed parts?

Okay, it's good to know that. I should remember that 3D printers are best for quick prototypes, to test for conditions like this. However, I'm still thinking about this. Are 3D printer files ever turned over to a commercial manufacturer to reproduce in quantity by a different manufacturing process, ...

Tolerance for 3D printed parts?

Hello, I was able to get my Dipole Feedpoint printed at the library, using PLA on a Lulzbot Mini 2. I was pleased with how it turned out: DSCN3859.JPG DSCN3861.JPG DSCN3860.JPG However, when I went to insert the BNC connector, it wouldn't fit through the hole. I measured the diameter of the connecto...
