Script Fodder: Cutting Text into a Pad

I have been using my Canstruction builds as a training ground for learning how to script objects in FreeCAD. One capability that has eluded me has been cutting text into the pads which are my can support/leveling layers. There is a nice tutorial on how to cut letters into the chamfer of a box using ...

Having a base of FreeCAD scripts helped out a lot, but this year, our design was easier to generate algorithmically. We started with a concept which we created as pixel art in a spreadsheet. Canstruction

I have been very negligent in not posting this a year ago. This is especially egregious since I owe a debt if gratutude to this community for helping me several times in solving technical issues. So I am going to try to make up for it, by posting a double feature. Canstruction is an activity where a...

Re: Trouble creating line in sketch

Thanks, Normandc! That worked great. And thanks for the pointer, which I should've thought of, since that was the process I used to develop most of my code.

Trouble creating line in sketch

I'm adapting a script I wrote last year for a new Canstruction creation. (Ref to last year: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=27354) I seem to have a problem adding lines to a sketch. The offending line is: sk.addGeometry(Part.Line(TF1c,TF2a)) which yields: <type 'exceptions.TypeError...

Re: The Black Fin: What's Going On Here?

Regardless of whether the answer is yes or no, it would make for a fun and interesting post in the "Users Showcase" or the "From FreeCAD to the Real World" sections of the forum: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewforum.php?f=24 https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=6430 I was going to as...

Re: Part.Cross_sections Object type

Here it is. In trying to create it, I discovered an interesting clue: Originally I created and sliced the plain figure, then the compound figure. It worked. Both "_cs" objects were of type "Part:Feature". If, however, I reverse the order as in the code below, the "_cs" object for the plain figure is...

Part.Cross_sections Object type

I have a question about the type associated with the output of the cross-sections operation on the Part Workbench. I am working with them in a script, and I have found that if I create cross-sections on a fusion, the resulting object is a Part.Feature. However, if I create cross-sections of a simple...

Re: "shrink wrap" a shape or shapes?

Gee, I didn't think of this as a tool path problem, but it fits.

I have a figure made of cans for which I need to cut out a piece to a) support the cans and b) provide a scalloped edge to help define the locations of the cans. The result will be something along these lines:

Re: "shrink wrap" a shape or shapes?

I'm also disappointed with how the first figure came out, so here's a better one.
