Does insult fix that for you?

Re: How to move and align STEP assembly

Again, it's assembly, period. The fact there is no 3D constraints does not make it less so. Pretending otherwise is asinine. asinine ˈasɪnʌɪn/Submit adjective extremely stupid or foolish. "Lydia ignored his asinine remark" synonyms: stupid, foolish, pointless, brainless, mindless, ...

There's no native relationship smarts. Aggregate or compound, I reckon.

Re: How to move and align STEP assembly

Selecting all entities and draft|upgrade should group them so that they move as one. Work in Ortho views using workplanes by view, use draft|move and draft|rotate, snap features and coordinate entry to orient the group. Once done, downgrade the group to separate the components.

Re: Convert selection to Part doesn't work

It's possible to isolate (coincident copy) individual faces instead of downgrading the object, by highlighting them (faces), invoking draft trim/extend, and then cancelling out. Perhaps you'd be able to apply distinct materials to those faces. *I think you've highlighted one face. Isolate that by in...

Did you check the ruled surface parameter when you lofted the profiles?

Re: Nurbs editor

There's an interesting height field generator out there called "ZSurf4" which generates an .igs file of a nurbs surface from greyscale bitmaps. The results are good enough to use as bases for measurement and reverse engineering.

Re: Nurbs editor

There's a lovely surface and curve editor called PolyCAD by a guy named Marcus Bole on polycad.co.uk, it's a parametric ship modeler too. Not open but free, he requires registration, but it's the most intuitive curve/surface editor there is, IMO. Manual or numeric editing, plain English file format,...

Re: Aligning the global coordinate system

User coordinate systems can be considered as a convenient access to working plane and transformation matrices related to that plane. Placing an origin imposes an arbitrary 'absolute' coordinate system instead of the relative system that is used otherwise. I disagree about necessity. IMO, convenience...

Workbench related? I've noticed that w,p workplane works in draft workbench but not complete.
