Re: Assembly 4 workbench

So I'm guessing this mirrors around the origin. Seems odd. I understand. I felt the same when I first used Link. Then I realized that scale was exactly that, a pure scalar. This makes sense because only a pure scalar does not change the actual form from the original. Yes it is relatively larger or ...

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

Given the functionality of links, is there now a good reason to not use them as mirror or multi-transform or polar arrays? Or perhaps these functions operate on features of a part which link does not? This question might actually have it's place in Part and PartDesign development. That is a more in...

Re: Assembly 4 workbench

I've been attempting to attach a mirrored part. Should the above procedure of using Part -> Mirror still work? In my case: After I drag-and-drop the part into the Assembly "Parts" folder I cannot insert a link that references that part. I also am unable to add a LCS to the part mirror. Question: wh...

Re: Part design and design intent/concept

while I think that backwards compatibility is an important feature, I don't think it should be taken as a religious belief. ... Windows has always maintained 100% backwards compatibility for applications (not drivers !) and that has brought a huge amount of bloat. Or look at PS and PDF and HTML: th...

Re: Part design and design intent/concept

As we know, in the case of "Sketch on Face" there is a flaw because of the topo naming issue. Agreed In the link above I had that conversation with chrisb, I think his conclusion is the best coarse at this time, we teach users how to model in a normal fashion, if the software has a problem that can...

Re: Part design and design intent/concept

... maybe some or all of the things you propose could be done but I feel like FreeCAD has struggled for years just to be able to make a model ... ... It seems to me like we just got this thing working and now to redesign some of the basic core stuff, it's too much. It's that old saying, if your han...

Re: Part or part design?

Re: Part design and design intent/concept

To avoid this FC has created datum and shape binders, and recommends we use these instead of faces. While this works, why have these not been incorporated internally to the "sketch on face" function to solve the problem which that function currently presents? I don't see that this can (currently) b...

Re: Part design and design intent/concept

Part Design currently just isn't flexible enough ,,, In the future therefore this can get fixed ... another possibility being to leave Part Design as is and make another module ... and to advertise Part Design as more specialized module ... IMHO Part Design is currently highly unintuitive and infle...

Re: Part or part design?

For Architecture work in general i would recommend the usage of Arch workbench. I fully agree, and for Samuele's project that may indeed be the best choice. My question is "When does a box with holes become a house?" I would suggest it is at some level of complexity. Perhaps the addition of connect...
