Farewell

Dear Folks, I want to make the announcement that I step down from FreeCAD development. It has been almost a decade of great joy, for which I thank you all. You have put light and purpose in my life. For that I will always be grateful. I hope this decision gives the project a way to flourish beyond m...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

There is another standard way of dealing with this: having a small arrow at the edge of the toolbar where you can select the tools that you want to be seen. This way, every tool can be shown by default, and the user can hide the buttons he rarely uses. I don't know whether that's available in the F...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

that's called bike-shedding : doing the core-coding is difficult therefore nobody does it since realthunder left, while UI is easy so everybody does it. I think your comment about bike-shedding is apt. While everybody uses their own time as pleases themselves (as it should be), bike-shedding has an...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

Now I am unsure I understood chrisb idea fully. Are you guys considering making three separate toolbars, one toolbar for geometric constraints "traditional version", one toolbar for dimensional constraints "traditional version" and one toolbar for "automatic tools", so ...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

Lastly, the following images are examples of proposals the toolbar review and theory-crafting that has been taking place among the design working group on discord. These proposals are being refined regularly and I haven't updated this based on the latest conversations. I've intentionally avoided br...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

P.S. I know that abdullah’s post is mainly about the toolbars but it also covers general complaints about the new tools and there have been such complaints from some users so I refer to them here. Fortunately, most users still want the changes. Maybe some bigger polls should be made (e.g. also on F...

Re: Sketcher Toolbars

A bit sad I have to say so, but I think your only viable option is to resign. Before you burn your mind out. Do not you think I have not considered resigning. This is how life works. FreeCAD isn't your fatherland (nor mine) so don't go mad trying to defend it at all costs. I would not fight for my ...

Sketcher Toolbars

Dear Folks, I am growing more and more frustrated by recent sketcher toolbar changes. I honestly think we have lost North. There are clear different views on the topic, ranging from (1) I want all icons available in toolbars to (2) remove everything but what a strong minority workflow needs. In the ...

Re: Modelling a pretty simple shape

I have no idea why your sketches don't show in 3D view, I only get this message in report view: <Part> ViewProviderExt.cpp(1274): Cannot compute Inventor representation for the shape of OldDLGReplacementFlaperon#Body: BRepMesh_IncrementalMesh::initParameters : invalid parameter value @abdullah, do ...

Re: Implement a new algorithm in sketch solver

I don't see a good reason for such a small perturbation. If this is not going to (in fact) change the parameters and if this is not going to affect the solver... I would take a random number in [-1,1], or [-10,10]... or [-a,a] where a is 1% of the size of the sketch... I don't know. If you use a sm...
