Re: Spreadsheet: Function or property to get/set cell alias from another cell
Thanks for the feedback. I know I should upgrade, I'm going to do that in short order. Regarding spreadsheets, does a reference like B2 update to C2 if copied one cell down, like ordinary spreadsheets? If it does, I don't see the benefit of writing GetAlias("Right") over GetAlias(B2). When...

Spreadsheet: Function or property to get/set cell alias from another cell
Hi, I'd like to suggest a spreadsheet function or cell property to get or set a cell alias. For example, one simple solution could be a formula something like: =GetAlias(B1) to get the cell alias from cell B1 and show it where this formula is written. If there's an equivalent SetAlias() function I g...

Mesh to shape creates a compound object - how to create solid?
Hi, This was meant to be a quick hack, but it's not working as expected. I downloaded this STL: https://cdn.thingiverse.com/assets/ff/40/68/1d/3c/broomstick_holder.stl I import it to freecad, go to the Part workbench and run "Create shape from Mesh". (I've verified in the Meshes -> Analyze...

Re: Best practices for re-usable features.
Maybe a Master Sketch workflow would suit your needs in this case as well, without additional addons?

Re: Part design object single solid only?
Why does the middle part disappear and the outer part stay, is there a rule for what stays and what goes? There is no rule for this. If a body is split into two distinct shapes by an operation such as my groove, perhaps it would make sense to split these shapes into separate Bodies in the FreeCAD d...

Part design object single solid only?
Hey, I'm learning more about FreeCAD, but I also discover that there are some details I'm probably not understanding right. Does a Part Design object always have to be a single solid? If some parts aren't meant to touch, do I have to design multiple parts and assemble them with something like Assemb...

Re: Reusing a pattern in multiple separate parts?
I'd like to try to connect the male and female end connectors to the main part. In the attached file I've sort of placed the connectors in approximately the place and padded them there. I didn't do the math, so it's visibly off it. I was hoping there was some way to snap the sketches on to the edge...

Re: Reusing a pattern in multiple separate parts?
Seems I managed to figure something out. I used the Part -> Attachment.. tool. Started by choosing only the edge of the sketch that I wanted to connect to the solid (and not the entire sketch). Then I chose Part -> Attachment, and chose the edge I wanted to connect to. I chose Attachment mode Inerti...

Re: Reusing a pattern in multiple separate parts?
I see, thanks for the explanation. I'm trying to design some toy train tracks as an example use of the master sketch, as I've learned so far. :) I've made the profile, which I can extrude/pad to the shape I like, but now I'm a bit stuck on the end connectors. I'm attaching the design I've made so fa...

Re: Reusing a pattern in multiple separate parts?
Thanks, that was much easier. :) It's not easy to understand the difference between stuff like Draft Clone and Part Design Clone. From a usability perspective, perhaps they can be consolidated into a single Clone function available from both workbenches? Could the "right" function be selec...
