You cannot create a TechDraw_DraftView from a Std_Group . The workaround is to first create the view from a 'dummy' draft object and then change the Source property of the view and select the group. When in TechDraw, on the page you want to export, there is a button that does the export, grouped with the DXF export button. The DXF button has the letters DXF, the svg one seems to be 3 boxes. It exports what is visible at the time.

I assume there are other ways to do the export

What you've done looks pretty great, and is pretty much the same use case. It's really frustrating to have it in FreeCad looking so, so right, and then have to export it to Inkscape. I agree that the TechDrawing output is useable but not brilliant, however, it does give the option for svg export which can then be tidied up in programs like Inkscape. I had no chance of finding that, too many terms that I do not fully understand to have had a chance at a proper internet search. However, now you have pointed me at it I might have a play.

Maybe better to give up on FreeCAD and just use Blender
