Re: vscode setup for python module import to work

Setting up VS Code Continued The base configuration will run the local Python interpreter and this will cause errors. You need to run the FreeCAD Python interpreter. On the lower left corner in the status bar the current Python interpreter is show. Clink on this field. CurrentInterpreter.png You wil...

Re: vscode setup for python module import to work

I have managed to get VS Code working on Linux and Windows and this article will detail the set up. There are 2 kinds of Python library files. Straight .py files and dll files that provide a Python to c or c++ interface to access functionality that is not available through straight Python. In Linux ...

Re: Please demonstrate using a remote text editor to substitute the Python editor in FreeCAD

... :( Well there is hope. I went to a Linux VM and installed FreeCAD and VS Code and it would not work. Could not find the files. So I played around for a long time chasing my tail and finally figured out that I was not actually loading the paths from .env. If you can not load the paths then you c...

Re: How many Bodies

Hi everyone, I have a quick question, I am designing one sketch. It seems like I get an error a lot in Part design when I try the Fillet. Some thing along the lines of "not part of an active body" I assume you have multiple bodies in your drawing. If you select an object from an inactive ...

Re: Spreadsheet slow action

Another alternative we have discussed is linking somehow to MS Excel (ubiquitous) or, perhaps, something from SourceForge (free). Is there a tracker entry for that concept? This would still need freedom from incessant recomputes. I don't think Chris was telling you to have external spread sheets. Y...

Re: Axis of Transposition

You need to get used to the idea of looking at the axis indicator in the lower right of the screen. You will get used to it. If you have a sketch and you need to rotate it you can do it by rotating the attachment point. In the combo view pane, Select the sketch in Tree View This will open a property...

Re: Please demonstrate using a remote text editor to substitute the Python editor in FreeCAD

the ptvsd connection works fine and I can debug, single step, explore variables, etc. it's editing code with autocomplete that is the issue, that and always having 64 errors because vscode can't find the FreeCAD modules. I am running from source, so I don't have anything in /usr/lib/... I think I k...

Re: Please demonstrate using a remote text editor to substitute the Python editor in FreeCAD

I have the following in .env: FREECAD_LIB=/home/mac/freecad-build/lib FREECAD_MOD=/home/mac/freecad-build/Mod PYTHONPATH=${FREECAD_Mod}:${FREECAD_LIB}:${PYTHONPATH} And the following in settings.json { //"python.pythonPath": "/usr/bin/python" "python.envFile": "${...

Re: 1/4 bolt problem - Shape is not a shell

I see you are using the same FreeCAD version I am but you are using OCC 7.3 while I am at 7.5. How do I move back to OCC 7.3? Not quite it's 9 commits older but the best advice I can give is download 0.18.4 https://github.com/FreeCAD/FreeCAD/releases/tag/0.18.4 (FreeCAD-0.18.4.980bf90-WIN-x64-porta...

Re: Please demonstrate using a remote text editor to substitute the Python editor in FreeCAD

Here is a video showing debugging FreeCAD Python macros with Visual Studio Code with all the set up that is needed. Very simple. You can even use the debugger to edit the code but I am not sure how useful it is. https://youtu.be/WSXEr-nvDI4 PTVSD is required and is available here. pip install ptvsd
