Re: Merge lattice WB as a tool in PD

Good question! When something like a Meta Workbench already existed, why was it discontinued? Wouldn't FreeCAD, with hundreds of workbenches that exist by now, benefit from something like that more than ever?

Re: Merge lattice WB as a tool in PD

A more radical approach would be to create a new "FreeCAD 2" workbench that starts as a clean slate and where one selected feature after the other gets adapted to in a concise, logical way. So everything in other workbenches would be "playground" for devs to try out things. And o...

obelisk79 wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 2:50 pm It would definitely be nice to see improved instancing/patterns. One thing that could be useful to learn from lattice is how the approach used is quite performant.
Parameterizable patterns in sketches would also be super helpful!

Re: Merge lattice WB as a tool in PD

The Meta Workbench proposal might help here. Allowing to group features that have historically grown in their own workbenches together and providing meaningful profiles that could come as part of meta-workbench, to e.g. have everything that a beginner/somebody migrating from other CAD tools might ne...

Re: Need to make a decision

There are workarounds to obtaining zero instances of a feature, but they are sometimes not very obvious (e.g. cutting out a pocket in something - if you do not want the pocket, you move the cutting object so it does not intersect the object). Good point, I ran into such cases several times. When th...

Re: FreeCAD on the web

The FreeCAD section of Maker's Muse's "review" of several free (mainly as in free beer) CAD programs: https://youtu.be/J--QVhGheP4?feature=shared&t=896 My main takeaway from this "slightly" semi-informed video section would be that FreeCAD 0.22 is heading into a good directio...

Good article. But better remove the last paragraph and buy an ad banner on the page, advertizing for your service. It is better to keep journalistic and ad contributions separate.

Re: Topological Naming Problem question

So in the case of a sketch connected to a face and the user tries to delete the face, FreeCAD can say No until the user disconnects the sketch. Same goes for external geometry, if something if attach then the attachment needs to be managed first. That sounds like a good approach! Predictability is ...

Re: Topological Naming Problem question

Imagine a house with a flat roof. In the middle of the roof is a chimney. Now you divide the roof in two and make it a triangular roof. On which side do you expect the chimney and how should the CAD system know about it? Hm, I would say neither. It would be as if one would have removed the roof alt...

Re: Topological Naming Problem question

As the first response to pretty much any question regarding TNP is almost always "it's just a mitigation, not a fix": Has anybody a conrete example that would still trigger the TNP even with the new code in place? Would be interesting to understand in order to circumvent such situations. A...
